Does the Diva have a quiver?

On EpicSki, there is a thread about women who have a quiver of skis. After reading most of the SkiDiva threads, I am coming to the realization that most don't have more than one ski.

Is this the case?
Between my husband's Gear Addiction(not to mention a bargain addiction), and my recent friendship with Phil(omena), I couldn't possibly stand a chance of having a one ski quiver, so I have an embarassing quiver. :o In fact, I'm trying to figure out which skis to sell.

Tell us what you ski, even if it's a One Ski Quiver!

Yes, as much as I hate to admit it, I am one of those poor, underprivileged souls with a one ski quiver. And to be honest, until I read that thread on Epic where people were posting all the skis they owned, I assumed that unless you were a racer or professional skier, that's what most people had. And I've been skiing for a LOT of years (shows how oblivious I can be!). The whole thing was a real eye opener.

It's not that I wouldn't love to have more skis. It's just that my funds are somewhat limited (at least for now -- though that could change; I DID buy a lottery ticket for tonight's $203 million Power Ball).

And it's not that I don't love my skis. I do (they're Head Monster i.M 70's, a a great all around ski). It's just that it means I have to take my ski selection VERY seriously, since it has to be good in a lot of different conditions. And it has to last for a while.

Trust me, Snowhot, I really have extreme ski envy over the number of skis you have. Someday, someday.

So keep your ears open. Tonight, if you hear screaming all the way in Michigan, it's me here in Vermont, with my winning lottery ticket. (Which means I'll be at the ski shop tomorrow :D )

I guess a better question should be "how does a quiver develope?"

I thought I was happy with one ski, then my husband convinced me that I NEEDED a stiffer shorter ski for crud days. So I had two.
Then I got really intrigued with the Atomic Metron line, decided to get the B5 to replace my Volkl 724 motions, but my husband convinced me that 'because they were such different skis' I may want to keep them both for different conditions.
Then I tried the P50 and loved it for hard pack days.
This year I wanted to add to my quiver with a twin tip, so I got a bargain on a used Karma with Look bindings. WTFH convinced me that the Burnin Luvs were the ultimate ski, and since he demoed a womans ski just to get a review for me, I had to get a pair. Phil found me a great deal on an 05 Burnin luv. When Phil bought his vintage set of "The Ski", I jumped at the chance to buy the set he had last year. Then Phil convinced me that I needed something wider under foot for my trip out west. The Sugar Daddy was the ski of choice, but kinda pricey, The Teledaddy is the same dimension but a softer flex, so why not get the Bargain of Sierra Ski and Snowboard at $159.

So,
Volkl 724 motion 170
P50, (SC 156, and Platinum 173)
Atomic Metron B5 162
Volkl Karma 169
K2 Burnin Luvs 167
Atomic Teledaddy's 163
And - The Ski

Oh My, when I list them all, it seems really rediculous.
I think I need an intervention:o

And Ski Diva, When we go to Stowe, I'll for sure include the Burnin Luvs in my trip. I'd be happy to let you take some turns on them.

Well I've a few. But thats what happens is you buy a new pair and don't get rid the old ones. So, most days I ski on my Rossi Z5. But I've still got my C-9 Puls that were longer and I use them for teaching. Also there is pair of Head Cyclone supercarvers in the "joint" stable. Hubby is skiing on my old Rossi Viper S's. Then there is that pair of Salomon demo skis that Hubby thought he'd like, but after buying them, wasn't so sure - their a "citizen race" race ski - haven't seen them in a while and can't remember what there are. So yeah-there is a quiver. Plus I can usually get just about anything from our local shop that I would like to try (and maybe buy!)

1 pair. I like to intuitively get a "feel" for the ski and develop a partnership. The ski becomes an extension of the body. We are one, so to speak. There are days where I flounder badly, such as deep powder or heavy cement, but it's okay. It's all good.

I too have quiver envy. (is that a bad pun?) Head iC 160 is my one and only. I don't think I ski well enough to feel the difference that better skiers do. One day I will demo and see if I can feel different sensations.

I too feel comfortable on 1 ski for the year. I have tried different skis occasionaly during a year and it takes me awhile to figure the new one out. I like to feel confident that I know exactly what my ski will and will not do.

My husband skis on different skis and is often heard to say that he guessed wrong and brought the wrong ski for the day. It just seems easier to stay with one.

I've historically always just had one pair for a couple of reasons, I tend to 'fall in love' with the latest ski, so I don't want to get back on the old planks. Also, having to travel so far to ski usually, it just isn't feasible to take multiple pairs.

I've just got a brand new pair of Lotta Luvs that I'm hoping will be great for all conditions, I'm tossing up whether to keep my 'old' (2006) model Burnin's, I still love them a lot, but I really doubt I'll use them again.

Welcome Shell!
IMHO, you should keep them.
I hear raves about both skis but for different conditions.
You may be surprised how much you enjoy using both of them for their own use.
Let the diva have a quiver!

Well, I just recently started developing a quiver.

Salomon Equipe 10 3V race - originally my only ski, now used for those icy days, previously owned by a racer who tuned them weekly, bought at a ski swap for $199 four years ago (of note: time to replace these babies, they are spent, but I love them because it's like having little red race cars on my feet!)

K2 Phat Luvs with Naxo AT bindings - bought them two years ago when we got interested in backcountry and snowcat skiing; first women's ski I ever bought, demoed at Telluride in a week's worth of spring funky weather and snow, bought brand new on pro form

Salomon Scream 8W - bought them last season at a ski swap, demos that were only a year old, for $299; 2nd women's ski I ever bought and it went on my list after demoing so I knew it was a deal

I can't afford to replace the Equipes this year, so looks like a shopping spree will have to wait. I do like to point out to people that you can develop a quiver if money is tight by buying at swaps. ;) On my list: K2 Burnin' Luv and K2 MissDemeanor. If I see a deal that can't be missed, they're mine!

When we meet up at Stowe, I'll let you give my burnin luvs a try. I plan on bringing my metrons and my burnin luvs to stowe.

So here's a question: do you consider your quiver to comprise every ski you own, even if you never use them any more and just keep them for guests? Or is it the stable currently in use?

I don't try to be a ski gear junkie.........it just happened:o
Maybe this will help explain my NEED for these skis:rolleyes:
My quiver
Volkl 724 motion 170
I use it sometimes but for the most part has been kept because my husband loves it too and it's also an easy ski to loan to a friend who's in need.

P50, (SC 156, and Platinum 173)
Because I like having the two race skis, but I'm selling the 156 SC this year.

Atomic Metron B5 162
My main ski, and I will not likely get rid of it any time soon. A chick could carve a pumpkin with this ski.

These four are all new additions to the quiver with very specific purposes in mind
Volkl Karma 169(Twin tip)
K2 Burnin Luvs 167(My first chick ski, because I had to see what the hooplah was all about)
Atomic Teledaddy's 163(99 MM waist to rock the powder world)
And - The Ski(bump specific ski)

By the way, most of them look like fatties. You can tell where she skis.

Oooh, ooh, ooh! :D

I'd love to have another chance on the Burnin Luvs. I skied a week at Jackson Hole/Grand Targhee on them during a long stretch of "no new snow" a few years back and really liked them. I've never tried Metrons. ;) I sure hope we wear the same size boot...

As for altagirl, if I lived where she lives and worked where she works, I'd probably have a basement that looks like that too. I do believe that some of those also belong to...or are shared with...Mr. altagirl.

She did say that the quiver was both hers and Mr AG.;)

Now for boot size.....both those skis are system bindings and won't take much to change if need be.
I am soooooooooo looking forward to skiing with you!
