Do You Know How Fast You Ski?

I do! :becky:

SkiNurse gave me her fancy new GPS and said, "GO!"
So I did!!! :race:

OMG!! I was surprised!

Heck! Now I can't remember what it was. Do you NannyMin or SkiNurse? :noidea: (dang short term memory problem!)

Ah....thanks Nanny! I was gonna say 52, but I wasn't sure....and didn't wanna lie! :eyebrows:

54.9 mph!!!

So....you can't EVER tell me that the K2 One Luvs are not a fast ski! :yahoo:

(I still can't get over that! Mr. NVG would KILL me!)

OOOOOO! I might just have to try that with our old hand-held GPS. But I might be disappointed when I find that I dont go nearly as fast as some of you!

Nope! I wish I knew, though. One of these days I'll nab a cheap gps from SAC and find out.

Darn it, I wanna know how fast I ski. SkiNurse, I think you should take Saturday off and come join us at A-Basin.

that is pretty cool to know that. I keep forgetting to bring my GPS when I ski (or I haven't gone enough to remember!) and I'd like to know how fast I go.

I have a friend who crashed on her bike and separated her shoulder. I crashed on my skis and separated mine a few years ago. We have this ongoing (friendly) argument about who was going faster! Considering I had gravity on my side.....

NOW think about the fact that there's some resort in SoCal that plans to GIVE OUT SPEEDING TICKETS (hopefully just in a specific region of the resort) to anyone going over (I think) 19 mph. Come on! Have no idea where the thread is at this point, but it was discussed. Such as, how are we supposed to know????

There ya go. 54, good grief, NVG! That's seriously moving!

Any idea which GPS it was? I am in the market - I want one for bicycling and motorcycling - I haven't really found a one-size fits all yet, so I am curious.

One more thing....

I really don't think I'll EVER ski in California.

I don't. It was really cool. She bought it primarily for hiking. If you PM her, I'm sure she would share.

I think she got it at REI and it cost about 400.00 I think I remember her saying.

I speculate I'm at 55mph. When I'm in a tuck I usually pass my DH, and he has a GPS that clocked him at 54mph (between my volkl 5 stars and extra weight, no way he can catch me lol). It completely petrifies me to see the #. And helmuts are rated up to 12mph?! My 12yo DD1 is on my tail now...scary scary...but there is nothing more exhilerating.

I bought my DH a Garmin Forerunner for Xmas this year, I think it's this one (ETA: I bought it at REI):

https://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Forer...2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1206478077&sr=1-2

He's finally started downloading to the PC, and it's cool to see. On a graph...the X (vertical ?) axis it's vertical feet, the Y axis is time...so you can tell by the curve on the graph if it's a steep/slower trail or flatter/fast trail, the chair lift ride up. He was skiing at Jay when he logged his last day - every run was down black diamond glade slopes...not so fast. But the one flat he did get going 55mph.

In Norway we have photo boxes that measures your speed when you drive your car and takes a photo of you if you drive to fast. We also have boards that measures your speed and tells you how fast you are driving. Of course, they have set the boards so that if you are driving faster than the legal speed on that road, it will only say i.e. "over 50". I'm sure you have something similar over there...

Some years ago I was in Austria and I came over the same boards only in the alpine slopes. It measured your speed going down. That was really funny, and we made sure to ski past it every couple of hours. I remember thinking at the time that this has to be illegal, because everyone wants to ski fast, and a lot of people probably skied a lot faster than their skills at that point. I'm still thinking the same thing...

And I really can't remember how fast I was skiing.

My boyfriend has a Suunto training watch that he can connect to a GPS. He uses it when skiing so he can brag to me afterwards how fast he is skiing. One of these days I have to "burrow" it so I can try it myself...

Holy crap, that's fast! The fastest I've clocked myself at is 34.5 and I thought THAT was fast!

re:GPS...I have the Garmin Forerunner 305 and I love it. I use it primarily for running and biking, but it's a lot of fun to have skiing, too. It retails for over $300, but I got a sweet deal on it before Christmas at Costco: $180!! The new 405 is really pretty (they have it in a nice girly green) and I lust after it, but really can't justify it when my 305 works just fine!

Garmin Forerunner 205=Excellent. I've had two of the previous running GPS incarnations and this one is a huge improvement. It has running, cycling and "other" sports i.e. skiing settings. Not sure how much they cost now, but there is a new one coming out so they should be reasonable. I always use www.newegg.com , phenominal site. Oh yah, the only difference btw. the 205 and 305 besides price and color is a heart rate monitor, so that option is available as well.

I'd love to know. But I'm afraid that if I knew that I was being clocked, I'd do something stupid and totally bite it. I mean, I do stuff like that even when I'm not being clocked!

I'm better off having someone aim a radar gun at me when I'm not looking, or just wearing a Garmin the entire day.
