Do you have any ski superstitions?

It's Friday the 13th. Does that strike fear in your heart? Are you superstitious? And do you have any superstitions that are related to skiing?

I posted in another thread, but just to make sure everyone gets the opportunity to read it...

Friday the 13th is a happy day in our household. Hubby and I had our first date on a Friday the 13th and then were married on a Friday the 13th. A good friend of mine and her husband had their first date, got married, and had their first child all on a Friday the 13th!

As far as ski superstitions, I don't really have any. I already worry about things like, will there be enough snow, will our luggage make it to the destination, will the flight be delayed, will the plane crash....

I'm neurotic enough already. I definitely don't need anything else to worry about. :o

I have one that I think is pretty common. I never say it's the last run. I know it's silly, but I'm afraid I'll get hurt if I say that. Better to be safe than sorry!

I read my horoscope every morning...then promptly forget what it said. We do take "the next to the last run " because we know you get hurt on the last run

I know someone who has to wear the same socks when he races (freshly laundered, of course). He says it brings him luck. I'm not sure.....

I never say I'm skiing well that day (or at least better than I usually do). That's when things are bound to go wrong.

I have a sticker on the tip of one of my skis and that ski is ALWAYS on my right. There really is no rhyme or reason for it, but it makes me very uncomfortable if I accidentally put it on my left - I have to stop and switch it around.

I don't consider it superstition. I usually say "one or two more runs", and meaning it seriously. But somehow the 2nd (and last) run never happens! ;)

I limit all my skiing to days that end in a "y".

Ok...I'm LOVING that! I'm going to have that be my new superstition!

I try to stay away from any slope that has a recent "Crossed skiis" incident on it! :D

I generally use the same stall in the bathrooms where I ski often. That's really weird. I don't think it's a superstition as much as a habit that I realized sort of after the fact, and then decided I better keep until something bad happens. ;-)

I firmly believe I ski better on days when I eat an oatmeal raisin cookie--though the oatmeal/cranberry ones at Moonlight Basin seemed to work as well. I have been known to buy two cookies and keep one in my coat pocket just in case I need some extra mojo.

I have a favorite pair of socks. They are Smartwool from a number of years ago. I've bought other socks since then but those particular Smartwools fit the best in my boots, for some odd reason I can tell the difference! Those socks are now sprouting some holes so their life span is questionable for many more days.

I don't know if it's truly a superstition or just practical knowledge :noidea:...but I never take "the last run." Just have seen too many mishaps to catastrophes on the last run happen to others. I usually assess my energy level in the afternoon and count backwards from a number of runs. The last one? Doesn't happen. Read this somewhere decades ago, have held fast to it ever since. And haven't had anything bad happen on what thus amounted to my "last run." Phew/knock on wood?

I'm not sure it's really a superstition, but I ALWAYS want to do one green run first-failure to do so has frequently led to me or one of my ski buddies wiping out, sometimes disastrously!

I kinda have a spin on the always wear clean underwear thing. I always shave my legs before I ski! Know matter what! I dread the idea of getting hurt and having some patroller commenting later to his friends about the "gorilla legs" ( I seen it happen!) in the treatment room! Silky smoth that's my motto! Oh and i alway's wear clean underwear too! Best way's to prevent an accident on the hill! Lol!

In high school, we had this weird thing going where we had to sing the Beatles song, "her majesty" before we unloaded the lift----and we could sing it so fast which came in especially handy when we forget until we were getting off. Don't remember what that was about exactly, but it was kind of supersticious or obsessive.

I don't have any superstitions that I am aware of today about skiing, got it all out of my system in the 70's perhaps.
