Do you care if you match?

That is, do your skis/boots/jacket/pants have to be color coordinated or don't you give a rat?

I feel better if they do, but for me, it's not a top priority, at least as far as my equipment goes. Years ago I had purple boots and HATED them, but that was more a function of the boots than the color (well, the color didn't help!).

With clothes, I think I'm a bit more particular. I'd like my clothes to match -- and since I have black pants, that makes the jacket easy. But I don't care if they do or don't match my skis or boots.

What do you think?

Tiny voice...yes, I am color coordinated, ....except for skis and boots. Everything else matches. I love my ski clothes. They are the best clothes I own, fit amazingly, and I feel like a million bucks in them. I wish I could wear them every day! And the poles match the pants (not a big deal, both are black). Skis, bindings, and boots don't count; function trumps form there.

The reality is performance is my first and foremost priority.

However..........When you posted the pic of the new Lady Krypton Kryzma, I was immediately interested, not only because of the added stiffness, but also because it may just match more of my equipment than my Krypton Storms.

I try to coordinate rather than "match." I stick with neutrals (black, white, off white) so I can mix and match and I like my skis to pop with some color and/or great graphics. I prefer a low key boot and would never sacrifice boot comfort or fit for color/style.

Yeah, I think I'm in the 'coordinating' and not 'matching' thing. Pretty much I go with solid colors, nothing terribly bright, but with skiing its only the top layer that matters anyway. Right now I'm stuck in a colorless rut. Black pants, black jacket. Grey helmet, Grey skis, black poles.

I went skiing with my friend once who was using some old 80s equpment and she had on as many colors as there were in the rainbow. It actually kinda bugged me. I don't need matching Gucci skis and jacket, but I do prefer to not incite blindness as I pass.

Well my stuff doesn't "match" but I have stuck with everything being black, greys, or blues so it all coordinates... well except for my poles - those are bright red. I'm dying to get some poles that are more subdued, but these ones I got for like 75% off for K2 4stars so my bargain instinct trumped my coordination instinct.

I really lucked out with my new equipment. My Fischer Vision 73's are predominately orange, and my new boots (Nordica Speedmachines) are blue and orange. So they actually coordinate. (Plus my jacket is blue). I am so all set!

I tried to coordinate the colors as much as I can. But that's not always possible. Since the fit and functionality of boots are the most importatnt, that got bought first with zero attention to color. Then the ski just happened, based again purely on function. If it match, great. If not, what the hell. I'm still going to get it! After those two, I look for "software" such as jacket/pants that don't clash with the ski/boot.

That's why I hate very flashy colors on the "hardware" such as boots and skis. It makes for a difficult job to "coordinate" the color between the two, and of the rest of stuff.

So far, my luck wasn't too bad. My old ski and boots were dark redish in theme so I bought my jacket, pant and hat to match, burgundy red and black gloves.

When it came time to replace my boot, I didn't worry about the color and my luck held. It's also of a redish huge. But the skis (two pair) went all over the spectrum so it's not going to "match", though forunately didn't really "clash" *yet*. Though depending what I might add later on to my quiver, it could potentially be quite an eye sore on certain combinations! :(

I have much better luck with my bike quiver. They're all of rather subdue color so it's much easier to accent it with my clothes to "make" the color. I wish skis are that way.

Man, I wish my bike was neutral colored. It's teal with silver handles. It looks like a freaking my little pony. I've completely given up on not looking like a tool when riding it.

I don't care to match, though I do like colors to compliment one another, but like other divas have said, color is far below function in ski stuff. One of my favorite colors is black, and all my ski clothes are black (go ski ninjas!), my skis last season (probably will be rock skis for the coming season) are dark blue and black with irridescent purple overlay in places, and my Vision 70s are predominantly blue with some silverish gray, should go nicely with my hair (black with blue highlighted ends). Current boots are blue, but I'm in the market for new ones some time next season, we'll see what the fitter throws my way.

i like my skis to have a funky design and not look like dogs vommit but other than that i dont care.

i have fluro green skis and ski with black pants. my boots are pale blue and i rotate tops. red (superwaterproof yet crunchy), light blue (comfy yet not waterproof.. fine overseas.. crap in OZ) and my new pink one which kinda replaces both of them.

pink and green aint so cool but meh. and my boots dont matter.. im so short and my pants too long you dont see them.

i had a cool blue theme going for a while which happened by chance.. the only goggles they had in the style i wanted was blue, and the only decent jacket on sale was light and medium blues.. and the only beanie i liked was blue.... but now i wear a helmet, and the jacket aint so cool in the australian rain! so now im a non matching kid.

although pink jacket and pink skis will be awsome. im yet to see the skis in the flesh yet as i ordered them as soon as i saw elans promo for the 08/09 season. it could be quite a tacky look.. haha but it will be fun! and as long as i dont snowplow and look like a goob it will all be cool. and the AT bindings will add some extra bonus points to cool factor! haha

I am not match-y in terms of caring or needing my boots and skis and jacket and pants and helmet to match.

I do try to by a jacket and pants and helmet that match. I was going with a powder blue jacket and helmet with black pants for a few years. Then I found this Orage jacket on sale that I had been dying to buy. It s green/yellow and white, and totally clashes with the blue helmet. Since I have skied an entire season that way, it does not bother me. I tried though.

I don't really try to match, but I guess I'm conscious of at least not having my clothes clash. My jacket's dark gray, pants are black, helmet is gray. I do have some peppier colored neck gaitors and turtlenecks to alleviate the boredom.
When it comes to gear, though, I do not even consider matching. For instance, my skis (Elan Mag 12s) are bright lime green. My boots are gray, but who knows what color the next pair will be? I couldn't care less as long as they fit and perform well.

Clothing is usually co-ordinated, although that's not hard to do.

'Hardware' I really couldn't care less about the colours, although I do have matching poles for both sets of skis.

I wouldn't buy anything (other than a fleece or a beanie maybe) purely on appearance, but if a good technical piece of gear 'matches' everything else, that's an added reason to buy it!

Then there's the issue of co-ordinating with your husband's gear..

For the equipement I don't care about coordinating just as long as it's not pink. I'm alergic to pink. Right now I have gold Rossi boots and orange & gray Volkl skis.
For clothing I tend to wear brighter colors mainly in the yellow, orange, red range. Although I did just buy a blue DNA jacket on clearance in Aspen. I try to keep my pants neutral: black, gray, beige.

My equipment happens to match although it's not deliberate. But I don't try to match clothing to equipment....although I do wear a lot of blue and people have asked me about other colors...??

black pants...

Whatever colored top...but if I wear a hat, it should match my top! Black boots and Black with hawaiian print skis! I LOVE my skis! :D

I just want to avoid clashing ... I have some bright blue pants and a red coat, and I don't usually wear those together. I wear a yellow or black coat with the blue pants, and gray, black, or white pants with the red coat, or the yellow coat. Gosh, that's a lot of pants. (I got a good deal on the pants ... a total of $170 for three pairs of pants, including full gore-tex Salomon, regular shell Salomon, and boring-gray-but-insulated-only-for-very-cold-days Five Season ... )

But I don't give a rat's ass about my boots or skis matching. I have taupe/bronzish boots, gray helmet, bright yellow poles, and two pairs of black skis.

I tend to go with the standard black pants, a neutral jacket, and grey helmet. Though I was seriously considering a pair of white/grey/blue camo print pair of pants the other day- even at half price I couldn't justify it as I doubted they'd go with anything. I did consider I could get a new jacket but alas the budget will only stretch so far :-( Well I've got my new skis they are a fabulous orange pattern and won't match anything either but hey I agree with most people that boots and skis don't matter.

This past season was probably the first time I've matched or co-ordinated in years. I got called Ms. Rossi because everything except the helmet was Rossi. Black pants, brown with black and white accents jacket, black gloves (CSIA promo), black goggles or now white ones and my white Salomon helmet. Then black boots - Rossi and my Z5's which are black, white with a shot of red. I don't remember being this matched before. Need new boots and the one pair I'm looking at are white with grey and yellow or orange. Can't remember except that it was bright!
