Diva Weeks 2026 - Whiteface and Big Sky

Change of plans for our trip out west. I'll be skiing Big Sky 6-10th with my husband and some family members. Hope to get a chance to meet up with some Divas even if it's just for a couple of runs.

Clearly, MissSnowItAll of SnowsBest enjoyed her trip to Big Sky last season. Note that for lodging she focused on the high end hotels.

" . . .

The terrain

Yes, there’s 5850 hectares of skiing terrain at Big Sky with 320 named runs. But what really struck me is the transition from each level. The resort has 21% beginner, 14% intermediate, 15% advanced intermediate, 31% advanced, 11% expert and 8% extreme.

Translated? It is the ideal mountain to progress your skiing and riding. Unlike other resorts that may have a large step from beginner to intermediate or intermediate to advanced, Big Sky has a gentle transition from one to the other. Making it the ideal place to run a ski improvement confidence camp as you gain skills through each transition.
. . .

The no-crowds lift system

The resort has invested $150million in the last five + years and it shows. The lift system alone is one of the most well thought out in North America with 40 lifts capable of moving 42,000 skiers and boarders uphill per hour.

I was there during peak season, and part of my sojourn was a weekend, and I did not stand in a lift line for longer than a couple of minutes at any time. The lift placements have been designed to disperse skiers and boarders across the mountain so that you never feel you’re overcrowded.

There were times, especially on the Moonlight Basin north side, that I thought I’d stumbled upon a closed run by mistake. Nope, I was on open runs, all by myself. Soul-oh skiing at its best.

The most recent chair, the Madison 8 (2024), offers the world’s longest 8 seater lift with heated seats and weather bubbles and there’s a new gondola this coming winter which will cost 10 person cabins (heated seats of course) and connect with the lower terminal of the tram.

The new glass terminal at the top of the Big Sky tram is spectacular!

I highly recommend riding the tram using a Scenic ticket if not interested in skiing down. Obviously more fun on a blue sky day. It's a good idea to bring poles for walking around on the snow. There is never a wait for Scenic rides because the limit for people riding up with skis/boards is much lower than the capacity of the tram. Do need to set up Tram Access ahead of time. Best to get that done at least a day before planning to ride the tram.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it to Whiteface for Diva East because I have a trip out west that week. I always follow the snow conditions in the NY Adirondacks for fun because Whiteface was the first mountain with chairlifts that I skied at long ago.

In the last decade, Whiteface has put a lot of time, effort, and money into improving the options for beginners and intermediates. The old lift at the second base that has gentle slopes for beginners of all ages was slow, meaning REALLY slow. I rode it once in 2014. The new lifts and base facilities at Bear Den even got Whiteface into the Top Ten in a survey. Snowmaking infrastructure has also been improved in recent years.
Snowmaking started at Whiteface on Nov. 1, 2025. :snow:

In early December 2013, I skied a day at Whiteface with an intermediate Diva. She had learned to ski in the midwest starting a year or two before that trip. She had no trouble skiing the long blue from the top of the gondola.

I wanted to start a public thread about our 2026 trips, for anyone who's not yet a member or hasn't posted much. The main planning threads for these trips -- like all threads involving in-person meetups -- can only be seen if you're a registered member with at least 15 posts.

If you're a newer member, reply to a few threads, or start a new thread to introduce yourself in the Getting To Know You forum. I think you'll be surprised how quickly you can get to 15 posts. If you're not a member yet, join the forum here! We'd love to have you.

So! Every year, we organize two trips, and this year those trips are:

Diva East: Whiteface, in early February 2026. Once you're a registered member with enough posts, you can see all the details here:

Diva West: Big Sky, in mid-March 2026. Once you're a registered member with enough posts, you can see all the details here:

There's a blog post with some general info about Diva Weeks here:

If you've never been to a Diva Week, we really encourage you to come. Meeting other Divas to ski in person is truly one of the best parts of this community. If you're a newer member and have any general questions, please ask here!
This looks so much fun! Working my way thru the min posts to see more info.

For those considering heading to Big Sky, the new Explorer gondola construction is going well. Will make it possible to ride up directly to the tram base from the main base. Also means the lines for the two chairlifts at the base should be shorter with a third way to get away from the main base.

This will be awesome, thanks for posting the update!

Hi there, I’m an old member that rarely visits this site & need to get with the program! I think I gravitate to FB because it is easy to scroll even though I hate the stupid thing. Would really love to see trip details & consider going but haven’t met the minimum in order to see it. Any ideas? I also paid to join (didn’t even know that was an option previously) I will do another intro & ask a question. Currently planning my spring & would love to view soon. Thx!

I don't have 15 posts yet so can't see all the info but I'll be at Big Sky the week of March 7th. Looking forward to seeing all the changes since my last trip there in early 2020. Maybe we will run into some of you on the hill!!

Hi all, I’m looking to join the West trip to Big Sky. It would be my first Ski Diva meetup and my first trip to MT. My message count is 17, but I’m unable to access the trip details. Maybe someone can give me a hint.

For those who live within driving distance of Lake Placid, it's not too late to join in for Diva East at Whiteface in a few weeks. The latest info can be found in Post #1 of this public thread.

There are also Divas Only threads about Diva East with more details and discussion of lodging options. Only need 15 posts to see that section of Meet On The Hill (MOTH).
