Ski Diva Extraordinaire
In my attempt at starting my own quiver, I took the plunge and demoed 3 pairs today.
Stats: 5'2, 112 lbs
Skill: Solid Intermediate
Conditions: Warm, groomed with crud
K2 One Luv : Took the 146's for a spin. Wow, wow, wow. Who would have thunk that a ski can make a huge difference. I went down two runs that I'm familiar with...One an easy run...one that challenges me. The One Luvs held their edges well, liked the hard pack as well as the crud. Once I got a little more comfortable, they started to rock. On the harder run I was able to link together more turns with more confidence and didn't feel like I was going to slide out on the hardpack. They wanted me to turn them. As I cranked up the speed, I did feel that they got a little bumpy. When all was said and done, these skis made me not want to break out my old skis again.
K2 Lotta Luv: After I took the One's back, I decided to give these a whirl. I was warned that they like to make bigger turns. After getting used to letting the skis turn and not working so hard, I zipped down my first run faster than ever with more confidence. They gripped, liked the hard packed and rocked the crud. I looked for every piece of crud I could find and then some. On the harder run, I ran while being patient with the turns. I didn't feel like I needed to turn them quite as quick as the One's. I was grining from ear to ear. I'd like to try a little longer (153) to see the difference but overall, these made me want to take them home.
Volkl Attiva Tierra: After having the Lotta Lovs rock my ski world, I traded those for these. I went with 149s and squeezed in one more run before I had to pick the kiddos up. Do to operator error on a flat section, I caught an edge and landed on my arse. After I regained my composure, I headed down my easier run. I tried to let these rip but I found myself having to work these babies. They wanted to be constantly "on-edge" thus leaving me on edge. I just wasn't relaxed. Maybe it was me, maybe it was the pressure of having to ski down quickly, return the skis, head back down the hill and be home before the kids got off the school bus. I didn't make it out to the harder run and had I had time anyway, I might have turned them after the one run regardless, riped the Lotta's out of the hands of someone who was going to demo them and yelled "Mine, mine, mine" as I ran to the exit for another run.
Conclusion:
The Lotta's are a lotta fun and are at the top of my list. Who knows what demo day #2 will bring.
