Demo Day #1 (One Luv, Lotta Luv, Tierra)

In my attempt at starting my own quiver, I took the plunge and demoed 3 pairs today.

Stats: 5'2, 112 lbs
Skill: Solid Intermediate
Conditions: Warm, groomed with crud

K2 One Luv : Took the 146's for a spin. Wow, wow, wow. Who would have thunk that a ski can make a huge difference. I went down two runs that I'm familiar with...One an easy run...one that challenges me. The One Luvs held their edges well, liked the hard pack as well as the crud. Once I got a little more comfortable, they started to rock. On the harder run I was able to link together more turns with more confidence and didn't feel like I was going to slide out on the hardpack. They wanted me to turn them. As I cranked up the speed, I did feel that they got a little bumpy. When all was said and done, these skis made me not want to break out my old skis again.

K2 Lotta Luv: After I took the One's back, I decided to give these a whirl. I was warned that they like to make bigger turns. After getting used to letting the skis turn and not working so hard, I zipped down my first run faster than ever with more confidence. They gripped, liked the hard packed and rocked the crud. I looked for every piece of crud I could find and then some. On the harder run, I ran while being patient with the turns. I didn't feel like I needed to turn them quite as quick as the One's. I was grining from ear to ear. I'd like to try a little longer (153) to see the difference but overall, these made me want to take them home.

Volkl Attiva Tierra: After having the Lotta Lovs rock my ski world, I traded those for these. I went with 149s and squeezed in one more run before I had to pick the kiddos up. Do to operator error on a flat section, I caught an edge and landed on my arse. After I regained my composure, I headed down my easier run. I tried to let these rip but I found myself having to work these babies. They wanted to be constantly "on-edge" thus leaving me on edge. I just wasn't relaxed. Maybe it was me, maybe it was the pressure of having to ski down quickly, return the skis, head back down the hill and be home before the kids got off the school bus. I didn't make it out to the harder run and had I had time anyway, I might have turned them after the one run regardless, riped the Lotta's out of the hands of someone who was going to demo them and yelled "Mine, mine, mine" as I ran to the exit for another run. :fencing:

Conclusion:
The Lotta's are a lotta fun and are at the top of my list. Who knows what demo day #2 will bring.

I had that same experience yesterday!

For me, the Lotta Luv was my last ski of the day, and I didn't HAVE to leave, but I was physically tired, so knew it would be a good idea -- kept making one last run, since the lift was between me and the rental shop!

Similar feelings about the Tough Luv, which was one of my three skis for the day, and now I'm trying to decide which of them suits my wants better, and I think it's going to take a second day of comparison!

AH!!! MY LUV SOULMATES!!!

I mentioned it last night, Kelly, but it's worth repeating -- stepping back onto a pair of Luvs after being on a Rossi for about an hour was like coming home!

Talk about forgiving: They forgave me for skiing on another brand!

(I bet my own True Luvs will too, when I slip into them again!)

Oh to find the bargain you did on some Lotta's! (153 for me!)

You all got that right. I'm watching the prices on them as we speak. GREAT ski. ESPECIALLY where y'all are skiing regularly (i.e., minimal "blue ice")

Hey Kelly...thanks.

I saw the REI ones but I think that 167 is probably too long. The shop Kirkwood are demos but I was thinking that $480 wasn't too bad but I'm not sure I want demo skis if I could get new for $100 more. Think there's a big difference? I sure liked the demos I tried.

To me, I really don't care about the "Demo" thing. A ski is a ski and it is going to get roughed up no matter what. The only BIG difference is that the binding will be an adjustible binding....so you need to have your local ski shop make sure it is fitting your boot several times throughout the ski season if you buy those. My guys here do it for free! :D It can make the ski a little heavier....but that's a good workout!

My One Luvs are Demos.....and, as you know, I REALLY Love them! :D

One good thing about an adjustible binding is that you can sell them at some point if you need to....to just about anyone because the bindings don't have to be remounted (which will ruin the ski)! :yahoo:

To me, I would snag that deal. I'm not finding many for under $560.00....and I looked A LOT!!!

The local shops here said it would be VERY unusual for the prices on those skis to go under 550.00.

Just MHO!

I may be able to get the one's I demoed. The shop is out of that size and they are getting ready to close that side of the mountain in about 2 weeks (It's not like we don't have a 160 inch base...sheesh!)
Anyways, I'll have to check the price I can get them at. I'm going back up the hill today and I don't think I'm even going to take my season rentals out of the car. I'm so ruined now. :becky:

mtnbikegirl --- I can get the demos I've skied too, and may do that. One of the things I wanted to know about the Lotta's, since I'd tried them before in big soft snow, was how they'd handle on our front side snow. It was a little softer out than I would have liked to try them the other day, but since this has been a really unusual year for us -- at least since I've been skiing, I do want to know how they are on the harder snow. I think I'll give them one more try this week -- either Friday or Sunday when we go (things should have packed out a bit by then, warm/cold, more skiers!), but I'm searching high and low at this point!

I'm in Luuuuuuv... I went to the shop today and did Demo Day #2...After two runs on other skis, I turned them in and took the Lotta's out for the rest of the day. I went back to the shop and made a deal. Price...$449-$80= $369. I couldn't pass it up.

Where are you skiing this weekend? If you're getting anything close to our weather it should be in the 40-50's. Break out the bikini.

Now THAT would clear the lift lines!

What a great deal you found on the Lotta's! I think from the rental shop at Bogus, I'm looking at 1/2 of list -- but I haven't asked them yet...

I'm hoping to have time to zip over to the shop where I got my boots tomorrow to see what THEY can do for me as far as price, since they carry K2 too.

Can't beat $369 but I got the One Luv's from Dawgcatching on Epic for $499. His shop is in Oregon.
If you're a member of Epic, he seems to have pretty good deals!
