I hope you can still get outdoors to fight off those winter blues. Thank goodness Ikon offers that spring purchase
Thank you! Yes, it was a great consolation to learn that I could ski this spring. So just a delay to the season. . . and something to look forward to next winter.

Added 6 days to the season total during the week staying in Sanday that overlapped with Diva West. Total out west is up to 17. Also got in 13 days in VA/WV in the first half of January.

Went with @diymom and @liquidfeet to Snowbasin and Deer Valley since they had never been before. @Olesya C joined us at Deer Valley, as did @Marigee (spending winters in Utah). Then skied Alta Sun-Wed. Slightly nuts on Sunday because the fresh snow brought out locals. Mon-Wed were blue sky and good snow if you know where to go, which I do for Alta.

Thank you!! I feel like I read these huge numbers of days per season and get super intimidated, but I have to remember, like, I'm in the Hudson Valley (so....not a terribly long season without adding in some real travel), with a necessarily in-person full-time M-F job, a husband who travels a lot for work, and two young kids (plus two teenage step-kids, although one is now away at college) who have other stuff going on as well. I'm doing what I can in my circumstances and it's giving me as much time on the slopes as I can get, while still working with everything else in my life!
@Amplify you are not alone. I am up to 6 at this point, and expect to end between 15-20, depending how long the WNY snow lasts this year. I have had some pretty major work trips this season, some personal family travel, and the teen is less into skiing these days, so even though it's been the best snow in years, there are competing priorities. Just trying to find the balance over here.

Epic birthday day today completing Backcountry ski tour #17 which was my biggest tour ever. I climbed 6000 vertical feet:yahoo: from Tschingelsee to the Hohtürli. Not another sole in site and found endless untracked powder lines all over the place. I probably won’t be able to walk tomorrow…oh well, I think I’ll still be all smiles:becky:.

I don't get to ski as much as some of you, I am jealous!

Days 12-14 for my daughter and I this weekend. Small 4-6 inch powder day on Sunday, and she was a little nervous about it. She quickly got used to the ungroomed low angle terrain under the beginner lift, though, and she was doing great, we were having a blast. I was taking videos to send to her dad because I was so proud of how she was doing.

We followed some tracks into the trees and back out again and as I came back onto the trail (looking uphill to make sure no one was coming), I heard a her yell "mommy!!" I stopped and looked around and couldn't see her...she had fallen into a hole next to the trail up to her head

Once I realized she was not injured we had a good laugh while it took several minutes to get her skis off and get out of the hole. All the while everyone watching us from the lift above. I didn't think to take a pic til she was halfway out.

I don't work on Mondays, so I let her skip school yesterday and we finally got to ski a weekday.

21 days and about to pass last year’s total which started with a broken fibula on the first run of the season. I was able to ski on it with the doctor’s recommendation to not do anything crazy.

I hope to at least double last year’s 23 days. Recently, we were in Steamboat for 30 days and then came to ski in the canyons in Salt Lake City but took two weeks off waiting for more snow and it’s finally here!

Today was day 69– I’ve taken one day off since Sugarbush opened (late opening compared to the previous two seasons). I have been skiing my brains out and we just keep getting more snow! Absolutely astonishing conditions, don’t come up for the hectic holiday week, but definitely come ski in Vermont if you didn’t have plans to this season. It’s spectacular right now and there’s a lot more snow on the way.

Been working a lot on my skiing, and a major breakthrough came with finding a bootfitter who really clicks with me— everyone at Totem Pole in Ludlow VT is wonderful. I’m getting better across the board, which feels incredible after reaching a definite plateau with my previous boots. (Previous ones were Rossi race boots and they had way too much forward lean for my body proportions; new ones are Tecnica Mach 1 LV and I adore them. Still using Zipfits I bought in March 2023 and they’re still in amazing shape, I think more than 250 days in them at this point.)

This season I’m teaching a seasonal group of kiddos (Vermont kids, five 7 year old girls), they’re a lot but I love them. I was asked to be part of the Saturday Women’s Series and the intensive Women’s Discovery Camp, and I am LOVING teaching those programs. I feel like I’ve found my niche working with women who are struggling with fear and it feels so good to be able to relate directly to their struggle and help them get through it.

Speaking of teaching adult beginners, yesterday was my sister’s 3rd day on skis and she’s already in love. Can’t wait to ski with her more.

Going to Solitude in early March with some friends— this will be my first time out west and happens to coincide with my 3 year anniversary of learning to ski. Pretty excited. Skiing is awesome.

I was just going to look up fear in this forum. The more skills I develop, the faster I get, but also the older I get and fear has become a deal that I’m aware of. Glad you are working with women on this, that I am not alone, and that there is hope! Congratulations on 69 days this season!

Fear is manageable, but I think it helps to keep in mind that it’s there for a reason. Children and young people are fearless because of a lack of experience in the world. We can push back against fear, expand that boundary a little bit at a time; building skills in comfortable terrain makes a world of difference. And yes, there is hope. Fear might not vanish but it doesn’t have to take over.

Check out “A Conversation with Fear” by Mermer Blakeslee if you get a chance. I read it soon after learning to ski and I found it profoundly helpful. ❤️

I read mermer’s book at @empogo ’s recommendation last season and it was so good. Definitely second it!

Love the updates  So happy reading all these stories and new memories made.

agree that in Vermont, the snow this season has been unreal. Everyday is the best day of the season since the start of January. Everyday we get powder even in the towns. I am shoveling a lot and the piles are taller than my height (5’4”) that said we are getting glimpses of spring with some melt and temps just above freezing. I just tell myself it’s good for the base and then we get another 3-6” per day. The alternate is crazy stormy weather with 50 mph winds. Saw wind deposit snow from one side of hayride to the other while we were skiing it. Totally wild.

Day 26: teaching level 4 kids. They were high level and so we did an intro to blues and wove the green and blue runs. (Practice on green, execute on blue — then again)
Day 27: clinic working on high level demos levels 1-4 and a teaching segment within a clinic — mentored by a dev team member for a clinic participant
Day 28: Alpine L3 prep (but it snowed so we skied powder in the trees and it was awesome)
Day 29: variable terrain and bumps (it snowed) some of the bump runs were groomed (whyyy) so we did a lot of variable terrain as it snowed buckets. Then we did the woods that hardly opens but was open that day. I have fond memories of my daughter leading me through those woods! Such good times.
Day 30: a snowboard lesson with a pint sized cute never ever kid. It was more like demo-ing a lot and the kid not having energy and mostly sitting. His parents kept him up late watching hockey the night before and gave him a breakfast of a peanut butter bar. It made me want to scream a little. That said he had great balance when he did have energy and he made both heel and toe side turns. And he also stopped and turned toward the magic carpet naturally.
Day 31: understudying a snowboard clinic. We worked on bumps on our way to the glades. And it was glades run after glades run after glades run (you get the idea). So much powder. It was pretty spectacular. I also learned a bit about running a clinic in relation to the learning connection model. And we debriefed at the end.

Trying to motivate to get on snow soon. I will be on snow for sure soon. As for how soon we will see…!

Hey echo_VT send us some of those snow storms!!!!!! I’m jealous! It rained here off and on this week but hoping the higher elevations saw some snow. We need it!
I got my ski boots full of grass and mud on ski tour #19 this Wednesday. We had a well snow packed climb to a ridge we needed to navigate on the final approach to our peak. The ridge itself proved a challenge :noidea:on foot as much of the snow had melted or blown away. Luckily our tour plan dropped us back into a north facing bowl still filled with plenty of untracked powder. That’s becoming harder and harder to find so we were feeling ecstatic.
I’m now getting my gear collected to leave to do the Mittelbündner Haute Route from Vals to Davos w/ a small group from my ski club. I’m feeling a bit nervous as I haven’t used my ski boot crampons for a few years. At least the weather forecast is looking beautiful with ideal temperatures. I’ll be up to 24 ski tours and on my way to setting a personal best for seasonal elevation gain by the time I get home. Then I think I’ll be ready to start meeting up with friends on the slopes if we don’t get more snow.

@marzNC we finally made it to Holiday Mountain yesterday, which you put on my radar when we were talking about the Ski NY Passport for kids. It was GREAT! I was so surprised. I chose it specifically because I wanted something too small (but close to bigger stuff) for any holiday weekend crowds to bother with, and as we were going to get some bad weather around 2pm I wanted a place that my kids would feel ready to leave early. We started skiing at 9, I finally dragged them out at 3 and they were begging to stay longer. Even with only 9 of the 10 trails open it was an absolute joy to ski - every single trail was a lovely cruiser (including the new double black) and we just lapped the whole mountain over and over, criss-crossing between the two lifts all day. I had invited a friend of theirs whose parents don’t ski, figuring it would be an easy outing, and that kid is very full of bravado etc so I had worried he would kvetch about the smallness of the slopes or the short runs etc but he was thrilled the whole time. It was a fantastic day of just cruising around - sometimes you don’t need anything hard!

They clearly have invested a ton of money into the place - the snow quality was GREAT, we didn’t hit a single patch of ice all day, which I found impressive given how new they are to it, and I guess they cut two new trails in the last year or so alone. I shared a lift at one point with a guy who is ski patrol at Belleayre and he said he’s been super impressed with the operation and skis there whenever he’s just looking for an easy way to have a couple fun hours.

Thank you for bringing it to my attention!! We will definitely head back to use our second “free day” for my older kid before the season ends. I might even check out the early season pass prices for next year - it’s just under an hour from our house, so it’s just a nice easy option even for special-school outings here or there, or things like that.

Not nearly as many as I would like to have going into mid-February!
I'm up to (4) days now with only one of those on my Ikon pass. Purgatory, Mammoth and Mount Hood Meadows - adulthood is interfering with my play time!

Thanks for the trip report! The guys from NYSkiBlog have been impressed too. Hopefully they can also get the summer operations profitable so that the winter ops can benefit in the long run.

Skied 9 days at Taos, including a Private Ski Week Feb. 9-14. Just finished a couple days at Wolf Creek. While it was busy given the holiday weekend, especially on Saturday, I know the place well enough that over all I had a great time. Well worth the drive from Taos, which is under 3 hours. Having senior season passes is working out this season.
