@skibum4ever glad your surgery went well. I’m not quite in your position but I’d love to know what brand of ski sock you found with toes? I’ve transitioned to toe socks for most things as I’ve found them to be incredibly helpful with my toes which are not straight & way too close together. It’s been a game changer for me despite the fact that they are a PITA to get on my feet !

I recommend searching for
"toe separators for women"
on Amazon. They have a lot of options and one might be perfect for your condition. Good luck.
Oh I forgot to mention that I had tried toe separators when the condition first appeared. I've found that powdering the space between the toes and then arranging them with the second toe above the big toe as I put on my socks eliminated the need for separators. In sandals with no socks I'm okay as long as the side straps aren't crowding my toes.

Have you tried taping your feet as well?

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers.

Good news about my phone. I let the charge run out and of course the phone shut off. When I recharged it, I had all my functionality. Seems like the analysis of my problem was incorrect. Yay!!!

Foot is not painful despite a fair amount of walking yesterday. I'm still far away from any lower body exercise. And probably will be until the bandage is removed in 3 weeks.
Amazing that walking is going well so soon though!!

@Electricwoman , just chiming in that @skibum4ever recommends the Orthofeet brand of shoes. There are often sales and discounts to help out trying, and a liberal return policy. She can comment better on her experience, though, I haven't tried them yet myself. I have bunions and/or arthritis in my big toes, and a wide forefoot; am impressed by the number of foot-friendly styles.

I absolutely recommend Orthofeet. They make regular, wide and extra wide shoes and allow you to return them (after wearing them outside!) for up to 60 days.

And they are currently on sale!

They include aids, such as 2 thicknesses of custom insole, to tailor the fit.

I have several pairs of sneakers, sandals and sheepskin slippers.

I wish they made ski boots.

@bambam sorry I missed your question.

Here's a link to the ski toe socks:

I thought I had bought them from Amazon but couldn't find them there in a quick search this morning. So they might have been purchased directly from Injinji.

However, I found these on Amazon:

And here's a direct link to the seller:

Two weeks later - to my amazement the surgeon removed the wrapping and put a bandaid (!) on the stump.

Back to two shoes and limited walking.

I'm supposed to start out doing 1/4 mile and check for swelling. I can then start to very gradually increase my distance not to exceed one mile by my next appointment two weeks from now.

After that I will be unrestricted and can walk or go to the gym as I wish. I will restart my personal training at that time.

So today I did a cautious .46 miles in a record shattering 15.4 minutes. Gotta start somewhere I guess.

Thanks so much - I will take a look at both!

Ah, interesting conversation. How are you doing now, after a few weeks, @skibum4ever?

I have a friend whose mother had her second toe amputated because it had become annoying. She was in her early 80s at the time, though; active for that age, but not skiing or hiking. So I have always remembered this, because my second toe is a bit of a mess due to two surgeries on the big toe next to it. The main issue with me is that my doc put me in a cast after the second surgery, and he squeezed my toes too close together so the big toe healed at an angle and rubs the second. I have that permanent (and getting worse) callus/bone spur thing going on, and I do occasionally use toe socks but haven't for skiing. I picked up tennis again this summer, and it's getting worse due to that. It isn't painful yet, but I have learned that I have a high pain threshold -- not pain tolerance, there is a difference. By the time things start bothering me, the doctors shrug and tell me it's too late to fix and we shall just replace it. (I've had three joint replacements so far! Yay!)

Anyway, this is a long way to say that I think it's possible my second toe may be removed at some point in the future....

@pinto it's definitely not a problem. I don't think it has affected my balance very much, though I am currently in PT out of an abundance of caution. Honestly my balance has never been the best, so I am pleased to be working on it.

I suggest either doing it soon or waiting until after the coming ski season.

Oh, it's nothing particularly imminent. I can just sorta see what might happen down the road a bit ...
