Cross country ski trip to Venabu

Hi All,

I'm looking to do a solo cross-country trip this Christmas. Since I'm a beginner I focused on finding a guided group tour and this was the best option I found. There are many tours out there but since I'm a beginner and traveling solo I don't want to go with a tour where I will be left on my own, I was wondering if anyone has ever been to Venabu for cross-country skiing. I would appreciate sharing your experience and feedback!

If you know of any other websites that offer group guided tours please let me know.

Thanks!

What dates are you going? That looks like a fabulous trip. Make sure to bring a quality headlamp if it is during the darker part of the winter, but I'm sure they talk about that.

I'm planning to go during Christmas, Dec 21-28. Thanks for the suggestion

Given that you are there just at the winter solstice, it will be quite dark, but a few hours of daylight as you are still in southern Norway. The holiday lighting should be spectacular. Not in a loud way, but scandinavia is known for soft holiday lights in all the homes. Not sure where home is, but the humidity can make for very cold skiing. Maybe a reflector on your back for other to see you as most scandinavian outdoor gear has tons of reflective material built in. Safety first, second and third is the motto of the nordic countries, even if they don't officially state it.

Please update us on the trip. I have alpine skied in Iceland, nordic skied in sweden growing up, and now wish to either ski tour in norway, and/or nordic ski tour in finland next.

I live in Toronto so it is cold but from what I am reading online it seems like Norway can be colder but less humidity? I'm curious about your third point that you mentioned the motto of the Nordic countries. I dont think I got your point, would you mind elaborating please?

For sure if I end up going I will post about it.

I'm still doing some research. I was hoping to find a guided tour in the USA for cross country but I couldnt find any good ones.

@Atousa Ha ha, I just meant that you are going to the part of the world with the safest cars, mandatory helmet wearing for most activities, mandatory bike/road safety throughout schooling, etc... There is a greater focus on prevention of injuries and it is quite obvious in their laws and customs. For example, I believe that Sweden's legal alcohol is something like 0.02! These are things I appreciate, but may seem over the top for people from other nations, including European ones.

You are probably right about it being dryer, which to us rocky mountain peeps, is still all very humid and damp and cold!
