Crested Buttte??

We are considering a trip to Crested Butte (in part because they have a deal for Okemo passholders). The propaganda they send makes it seem like a good place for us (7 and 9 yr olds are becoming great skiers, and are nearly outskiing their advanced/expert parents). Can anyone share some honest/objective comments about it? Also, any suggestions about lodging etc? We are thinking about going near the third week of March.

Thanks!!

We skied there for the first time in December. Our kids are 11 and 13 and are great skiers. It was great for them. I enjoyed it as well even though I'm a much more moderate skier. Although I am a CO native, I had never been to Crested Butte and it's a neat little town still. Lots of other resorts here have gotten so commercialized, that it was refreshing. They've had tons of snow this winter!!! My question for you is...are you flying into town, and if so, where? It is quite a ways from Denver, and when we went down, a 4 1/2 hour drive took 12 hours because of the weather!

We went to CB in December for our first time there too. Not everything was open then, but it was a fun mountain. Really picturesque with a beautiful, quaint town. Ditto what Skimom said; nice that it's not that commercialized yet.
We stayed at the Grand Lodge-the location was great, just walk across the square to the lifts! The hotel itself was nice, not particularly amazing, but the free ski valet service was nice. I don't recommend the dinner there, catch the free bus to town for dinners at great little places instead.
For the kids, I know they have a kids-only terrain park and map! But there really is a lot of great terrain for any ability. Plenty to keep you busy for intermediates and up. It is a long drive on a lot of 2 lane roads from Denver-it took us 5 hours in snow, and 4 hours in clear weather.
Overall, I think it's a worthy, out-of-the-way destination. Colorado beauty without the crowds, plus a friendly town and some great skiing!:ski2:
Any other questions, feel free to PM or write me back!

Thanks for the thoughts on CB. It defintiely sounds like a good place for us. I think we'd probably fly into Gunnison, which I understand is only 30min. away.

My son is out there right now, and the place has gotten buried this winter -really a ton of snow. So conditions will be great in mid-late March! Go for it!! Don't forget to post a trip report afterward!
