Crazy Summer Festivals

Some of you may know that next weekend (August 16) is my daughter's wedding day. So while looking around for things for visitors to do (besides have a great time celebrating), I looked in the paper and saw that next weekend is also THE VERMONT ZUCCHINI FESTIVAL!!!!! Complete with a zuch-a-pult, where they fling these long, sleek veggies in the air, all sorts of zucchini delicacies, and lots of (I'd guess) zucchini related stuff.

I mean, how can they stay away?????

Anyone else have crazy/interesting local summer festivals we should know about?

I miss the Wine and Chile War and the Whole Enchilada Festival from my college days in southern New Mexico.

Fond memories of a chili pepper festival in Kutztown, PA....

you could pick your own peppers at the mennonite farm up the road (they had all kinds of crazy varieties) and then they put you on a horse drawn cart and it took you to the festival proper. I remember a lot of motorcycle guys in a pepper eating contest...

Although it's not a festival, I"m going to Key Largo next week (woot woot) and next weekend (15th and 16th) there will be full-moon viewing parties all over the place!

Happy Wedding times, Diva! Have fun and don't forget your tissues.

Ah, we have a garlic festival!

Ohh, we also have a garlic festival... The Gilroy Garlic Festival. They grow so much garlic in Gilroy that we can smell it during garlic season in the morning all the way up in Bay Area!

I say every morning as we walk out the door for work, "Mmmmm  It's garlic season."

We also have a garlic festival later in August in Saugerties, NY. I had garlic ice cream there last year, it was actually pretty good!

Hunter Mt (NY) has a bunch of festivals during the off-season too, octoberfest and german fest, check their website. Whiteface is doing an octoberfest first weekend in October.

We sincerely have a testicle festival. Honest to god. It started over rocky mountain oysters ( cow testes fried ) and has elevated to mayhem proportion. It's a nightmare is what it is.

Yesterday was the onion eating contest in a town near where my family is. Like Gilroy, CA, you can smell onions for miles when you're driving around....Actually, it's the town I used to have to drive through to get to the local ski are (tho' you can't smell onions in the winter!).

Anyone going to be in Killington/Rutland VT area October 4th? There is a Killington Brewfest (with great music, too) on Sat Oct 4th. I'll definitely be there!

Sorry if it doesn't show up. I obviously have no idea what I'm doing.
