We just returned a few days ago from skiing Copper Mtn in CO over the holidays. We stayed at a condo rental in Frisco and shuttled to the mountain each day by car, about 15 min. At the start of the trip they had no fresh snow and 22 runs of green and blue and 1 black run on the lower hill so pretty limited terrain open. The black was Rosi's run which was the lower portion of the World Cup which took place early December and I was told still very icy from the race and lack of new snow and I avoided it. All the runs open were groomed and there were no bumps, bowls or tree runs open. First time on my new Mantra 84 skis. The first two days we were there, temps climbed into the 40s during the day so it felt a little like spring skiing. Happily the lifts and runs were not crowded and most lifts were basically walk on esp the early part of our time there which made for a lot of skiing instead of line waiting. Copper got 7" of snow overnight on Dec 27 so skiing on the 28th/29th had approx 10 more trails (mostly blue and green) open and some areas of ungroomed snow and a short run of smallish bumps. My new skis handled well in all conditions and were enjoyable to ski. I thought the snow surface was equivalent to most of my skiing in PA last year and while it was icy in some places, there was still soft snow on all the trails I tried. They were making snow on our last few days there as it was cold enough in the daytime. Overall, we had a great time skiing at Copper. Hope CO gets some good storms in the next 2 months so more terrain will open up at all the resorts along I-70. (I was bummed to miss out on meeting with Aerlind for a few runs early.on the 26th bc my son was on skis for the first time instead of his snowboard and was sticking to the green runs.)
