I’m flying out tomorrow heading in this directions- supposed to stay in the super 8 in Dillon and skiing in keystone over the weekend - should I be making alternate plans? Thoughts? Is it too risky to go this weekend?

What are your cancellation fees? Unless you get 90% back I'd say no. It could be the best weekend of your life.
CDOT has already said there will be closures for avy mitigation tomorrow but they won't say where. This could cause delays getting through Eisenhower Tunnel but once you're thru you should be home free. There are no avy chutes (that I know of) between Dillon and Keystone. You will not be traveling through the avy prone areas west of Dillon.

What time are you arriving? We're planning on heading back to Lakewood tomorrow morning and it looks like roads will be clear until later in the day.

If you're here and the highway closes you will be in 7th Heaven since no one from the front range can get here.

It’s a work trip so I should be able to get the flight moved if needed but I also have hotel, lift tickets and ski school already paid for. The shuttle is supposed to pick me up at 4PM from the airport so I would get to that general area by around 6 right?

If the highway closes and I can’t get to work in Denver by Tuesday morning I’ll be in trouble ;)

Another storm is coming in this afternoon...I live here in Colorado and we have a condo in Summit County...and to be honest, there is no way I would drive up I70 tonite!! With that said, the conditions are epic right now...the skiing would be amazing...Maybe have a plan B to stay in Denver tonite, if necessary.

I agree, we wouldn't be driving tonight. We're leaving this morning to be safe. However, we are not professional drivers who know the roads. Also, if EPIC can't get her here then she has a cause for refunds on lift tickets/ski school since Vail owns EPIC.

All the problems yesterday were caused by the amount of heavy, wet snow. It came down all day which contributed to the poor road conditions causing accidents and slides. It was historical and caught everyone off guard since there were slides in places that had not slid before. CDOT was being extra cautious. Most of the issues were in the 10 mile range (Officers Gulch) area and Vail Pass.

Anyway, it's absolutely beautiful up here.

Thanks everyone! I’m at the gate waiting for my flight so fingers crossed it goes well. I just spoke to summit express the shuttle company and they are running on schedule today. I land at 2:30 so hopefully I can be well on my way before it really comes down later tonight. But I’ll decide when I get there whether to spend the night in Denver first. Thanks again and wish me luck! Keystone also said I should be able to do a refund if I don’t end up getting there in time for the lesssons!

Have fun! Could be a great lesson day - especially if you’re not familiar with skiing *in* snow, instead of *on* snow. My lesson in powder at Taos a few years ago was a big help, although it still throws me if I can’t see my skis!

Well here I am on I-70 about what should normally be about an hour from the resorts - but Waze says there are some accidents ahead so traffic is pretty slow right now. Visibility is not great and I’m glad I decided to take a shuttle rather than drive.

Woohoo! Took just shy of 3 hrs but I arrived at the hotel. You guys weren’t kidding about the altitude! Turns out the hotel doesn’t have an elevator nor the advertised ski lockers... and as I was lugging my stuff up to the third floor I suddenly got really really woozy and out of breath. I had to sit in the hallway a while to get my bearings. Now — how to get dinner in the middle of all this...
