cool thang head ski's

hi girls! i'm holly and this is my first post:smile:
i've been skiing for only two seasons now and i love-love it. last season i switched from the big easy head to the cool thang head ski's and i'm finding them way difficult to make turns! and they suck in the powder at big white. is this me or the ski or a combo? will it get easier in the powder?(maybe its a matter of leg strength?)
i feel like they are super stiff and i bounce around a lot in the powder.
maybe this ski is too advanced for me or just unsuitable for powder. i got them cheap second hand without even testing them :O.

basically i know nothing about skis and my boyfriend is a boarder(gasp) so i dont have anyone to ask.
i'd like your 2cents worth please:smile:

It's hard to say if it's you or the ski or a combination thereof. One way to find out is to try other skis and see if you detect a change. You should be able to do that fairly easily by demoing or renting from a ski shop or resort.

That said, I've always loved Head skis, and the Cool Thang is known as an easy to ski cruiser. It's not very aggressive, though, so that could be the problem. And with a waist of 70 mm, it's too narrow to be much good in the powder (wider is better).

It could also be a length problem. A ski that's the wrong length can make a big difference. It'd be interesting to see how it worked out for you, if you tried it in another size.

Ah, another Canuck!! For the Big White (out) you need a more all mountain ski. As Ski Diva says the waist is too narrow. Great ski for us in the east with our hard pack. Try some wider waisted skis. Check through the gear threads and you'll see where some of us have had a chance to demo the new stuff coming out. Are you in BC or Alberta?

With a 70 mm waist, the Cool Thang is not ideal for deep snow conditions, nor is it ideal for crud days.
This ski is designed for an intermediate skier looking to improve, which (often) means that its likely to be a bit soft and not a power house when getting through the crud, but great on front side groomers.

You may want to do one of these things:
1)Consider replacing it with a mid fat(80-90 waist) like the Wild thang or Fat Thang(There are some demo fat thangs for sale in Gear swap for a heckuva deal).
2)Check the binding setting. Play with the binding placement and see if you can adjust it forward and rear for a different balance point. This may help you get more enjoyment out of the Cool Thang.
3) Keep this ski for your front side carver and add a midfat so you have what you need for all/most conditions

Sounds like you might have the wrong ski for the job. The Cool Thang is fantastic on intermediate groomed runs, and great on hardpack and ice.

Where and what do you like to ski? Even if you have only skied for two years, if you are venturing in powder or crud, you would want something different. It would be like trying to take a Mini Cooper 4-wheeling.

I love the HEAD Sweet Fat Thang, and it might be the ticket for what you like. Let me know your thoughts. Alison
