Question: Conditions in Nov/Dec?

We are thinking of coming over to Colorado at the end of November/early December but have no idea what the chances are of good conditions. Can anyone advise? We live in the UK and have never skied in Colorado before but have always wanted to so don't want to get it wrong and find we are there too early:noidea:

Honestly, that's a risky time. It could be marvelous, it could be bad. Last year was bad. The year before was incredibly good. If you can delay to mid-December your odds of decent conditions get much better.

I agree with Robyn on this one!! Copper plans on opening Nov. 14th this year  and you just never know! Snow should be better middle of Dec.

I skied Targhee Thanksgiving last year and it was really amazing conditions. They seem to have consistently decent early season if you have to take a risk.

Thanks for the advice! Was hoping to sneak in a quick early trip before Xmas - think we may have to leave it until the new year as it's a long long way to go from the UK (and expensive!) if there's no snow!

When you do finalise your plans - be sure to let me know. I'd love to come and ski with you for a day and have some BritSpeak. I'll give you a few clues to some differences between skiing here and Europe (such as it's nearly always a goggle day here, and the lift queues are so orderly and well mannered it's a totally relaxed experience). There are a few Chalet vacations here, not as many as Europe. I do know of a great one in Beaver Creek where you might get a good deal, but it's actually very very easy to eat out in the US and not megabucks like it is in France. Oh - and you have to carry ID all the time, bring your driver's license, you get carded in bars no matter what your age (legal age 21) and no ID = no drink.

Would love to ski with a local for a day! What a treat!

We have skiied a fair amount in North America - lots of weeks in Banff (Lake Louise, Heavenly etc) and three or four weeks around Lake Tahoe so we are total converts to the ski experience on your side of the pond. We have always wanted to try Colorado though - hubby is a big Denver Broncos fan!

GO BRONCOS!!!!!

I'd love to meet up with you as well. Might be able to round up a Brit from the office as well.

Well I'm a Manchester lass so you can't count me as a local - been in Colorado for four months now. Robyn is and she'll make up for me, and she is a Broncos fan. You will love skiing in Colorado, great snow, great towns and wonderful people. We'll both look forward to skiing with you.

Any recommendations for where to stay? I've been hunting around for deals but as we don't know the area I'm fumbling around in the dark a bit. We usually like to ski a variety of places so would prefer to be somewhere with good access to a few good ski hills within an hour or so's drive. Just looking for something clean and basic - nothing fancy.

You can also look at https://www.wildernest.com/ for condo rentals. We've used them many times and have always been happy. Most of their condos are in Silverthorne and Dillon, both of which are an easy drive to all the Summit County resorts, as well as Vail and Beaver Creek (a bit further, but still easy unless the roads are in bad shape...which usually means great skiing!).
