Comments about dynastar exclusive legend powder

I'm seriously considering buying these skis. I used to be a pretty aggressive skiier when I was younger, but after a 8 yr hiatus snowboarding, I am just getting back into it. I live out west in Canada and so I'm looking for a powder ski that also gets it done on the piste. I am a 5'4, 24 yrs old, approximately 145 lb, athletic girl. I have been getting mixed reviews on which size to get. Will the 165 be too long for me? I looked on the dynastar sizing list and it said for that particular ski, women between 130-160 lbs should get the
165s. I guess I am just a bit skeptical. Does anyone have any input?

Hi megtab, nice to have you on board! I'm a Dynastar-gal for sure- no matter what I ski, I always go back to Dyna's. I can't specifically address the powder version of the Legend, but I know the Exclusive Legend, and it is a blast. Major difference, presumably, is waist width. Any chance you can demo? Okay, here's the thing, I think they ski somewhat "short." I'm 5'6" 130+-, and I've been on the 165's for a couple of years (several different models), and I think they are fantastic. Frankly, I think you might be disappointed with anything shorter. I now have some 158's in the Exclusive 10 - jury's still out on whether I like this shorter length. I'm way used to have some "edge" beneath me. I'm not a particularly aggressive skier (not at my age  ), but the women's specific Dynastars are incredibly versatile and will gently cruise or pour it on, your choice. I think you are looking at the right ski, frankly. JMHO, a bit biased, as I simply love this brand. Good luck, keep us posted!

Like MaineSkiLady, I can offer an opinion on the Exclusive Legend non-powder. I am 5'5" and 125lbs, an advanced skier, and I ski the 158cm. The 165cm should probably be right for you.

If you were once aggressive, you'll probably get back to being aggressive fairly quickly, so don't sell yourself short for that reason.

hey megtab,

i'm from western canada as well (bc)!!!

again, i'm not familiar with the powder version of the exclusive but got a chance to ski on the women's version of the legend pro model.

my specs: 5'7" 145lbs 23 yr old fairly aggressive skier

the length i skied was a 178 and dimentions of the ski were around124/97/116 (i'm guessing a bit here, as i can't remember the exact digits!) . . . and unfortunatly i can't find the exact ski i demoed on anywhere . . .

but they were an amazing ski!
stable, fat, fun, and turn on a dime, yet are stable and carve as well. they were the ultimate all around ski.
my one and only complaint was that they were heavy . . . really heavy, and demanding (these skis weren't very forgiving).

BUT . . .

from what i've been told and from my own investigating, the legend series have VERY similar charicteristics . . . they're all amazing skis!
the differences are more in the stiffness and weight.

the exlusive powder version is supposed to be a bit softer and lighter than the pro version, so it sounds like it would be great for you if you're looking for something aggressive/responsive, but with a bit more forgiveness.

dynastar deffinately blew me away . . . legends are VERY NICE skis.

also, in regards to length, i'd probably go longer than shorter taking into consideration your skiing style and the fact that you're generally skiing deeper snow out west :snow: !!

i enjoyed skiing the burly 178's and LOVED them in the trees -- even when the trees got really tight (the legends manuvered VERY well for such a big ski).

i know i rambled a lot, but i hope it helps . . .

demo if you can!

cheers,

lil mtn girl
