I just jumped on Ski Divas for the first time because I am in Silverthorne, Colorado about half of my time and I am looking for some ski buddies. I am a more "mature" skier, but love to ski most of any mountain. Wondering if there are any divas out there in the Keystone, Breck, Vail area. I am an Epic pass holder and I switch around to those three resorts. Tried to find information on the "Fifty Plus Ski with Us" program but the help line doesn't seem to know much about it. I'll post again if I learn anything new.

Welcome, I'm in Silverthorne, half the time too. I have an Ikon Pass so I don't ski Vail resorts. I think you want Loosy Goosy, check with the Summit Senior Center, they should have contacts.

I have a friend from out of town who may be coming out this year after the holidays. She got the Epic pass last year and was looking for ski buddies. I'll let you know if she is coming and wants to hook up.

Hi LynneT! I skied at Copper last year with a woman that was in some kind of senior group that sounded like a lot of fun. I think it was organized through the ski school possibly? I just happened to meet her at the shuttle stop and she gave me a guided tour of the mountain and showed me some neat tricks. So you might try Copper ✅

Thanks for the ideas, ladies. I hate that we are a group divided: Ikon or Epic! Even my own family. I'll write back if I learn something significant. Hoping to ski a lot of weekdays now that I am finally retired!

Welcome! I haven't skied much in Colorado but have been interested in programs for Over 50 folks for a while. I have Ikon because I like a number of those locations but have been thinking about getting Epic for a season.

In any case, here's the thread from 2018 related to your question:

Also an article from 2019 about the Breckenridge and Keystone 50-plus Ski With Us program. Apparently started in 2009 at Keystone and a year later at Breck. Guides are available on a specific weekday at each resort.

Check out the Over the Hill Gang. We skied with them a number of years ago and they had a large group skiing Keystone and Breckenridge.

Sorry, I didn't read all the posts. Duplicate information methinks.

Over The Hill Gang is at Copper four days a week. Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sundays. Membership is required to ski with the Over The Hill Gang. It is part of the Ski School so many of the guides are certified instructors.
50+ ski with us is at Keystone and I'm not sure about Breckenridge. The guides are part of Guest Services and it is NOT associated with the ski school.

I’m at Breck this week. I skied Breck yesterday, Copper today, and will do Keystone tomorrow. I haven’t skied Copper since the early 90’s. First time using my IKON pass. First time using a RFID gate too. Being a mellow skier with no stamina and a bad knee, I stuck to the trails serviced by the American Flyer. I tried to do a different one each run. Half of them were groomed and the other half not. They were all great except for one: an ungroomed rolling cat track switchback is NOT “the easiest way down” as the sign says. I think I used more energy navigating that than any other section.

Panic time! I just checked open snow and Breck is forecasting 6”+ powder on Friday. I never learned how to ski powder and am now trying to catch up. I have the BP88 with me. I’m sure everyone else is excited but I am . I don’t want to hurt my bad knee again!

I survived. I stuck to Peak 9 of which I’m most familiar. I took the Beaver Run Superchair and did Bonanza, a mellow blue. The first short section under the lift was about a foot and I couldn’t do much other than stay on my feet. After that short section it was about 6” deep to mid-mountain. After that was about 2-4” deep. The 6” I could handle somewhat but it was a lot of work and I kept sitting back. I probably had no technique whatsoever. My legs were already tired from 3 days of skiing. So after Bonanza I stuck to the lower green runs and practice on the 2-4” on the side of trails. I enjoyed it enough the next morning I went to Peak 8 to catch a few more runs on Springmeier in 2-4” of powder before catching my shuttle to Denver.

The most exciting (scary?) part was the shuttle ride to Denver. There was a 30 minute backup on the west side of the tunnel on I-70 due to cars sliding and blocking lanes. The shuttle driver kept the mood light with live commentary — “we just need to get ahead of the Prius!”, “Oh no! The RAV4 has no snow tires!” “Chad, please don’t get out of the car!” “Hello, nice to see you so close, how ya’ doing?” We were laughing so hard we forgot we could be in an accident any minute.

The Colorado snowpack is unstable, apparently due to the way the weather and snowfall in Oct and Nov. Be careful!

There was even an in-bounds avalanche at Steamboat, but no fatalities there although one person was fully buried briefly. At Copper, someone ducked a rope and probably triggered an avalanche in a closed area but was not caught in it.

Hey everyone,

I’ll be in Denver at the end of March for a conference & am looking for some advice about where to get in some awesome skiing afterwards. There are so many options to choose from in Colorado that it’s a bit overwhelming.

I expect to have 3 or so days, so Aspen is probably out. I am an intermediate level skier, but am not into moguls, or crazy steep hills. Hubby is somewhere between beginner and intermediate. Both of us love long runs.

I wouldn’t mind checking out a couple of resorts, but we’re paying in Canadian $$, so need to try & keep it reasonable.

We’re going to Tremblant in Jan & I use Costco passes and book hotels using Hotwire.

Can anyone here recommend a resort &/or tips on scoring cheaper tickets?

Thanks much in advance.

Hey there! I'm sure you're going to get a ton of awesome advice from my fellow Colorado ladies about front range options, but if you did want to come out West towards Aspen area, I am more than happy to open up my house to you and your husband (we have an in-law suite that is entirely private). I'm in Glenwood Springs, so it's not ski-in/ski-out, but well positioned to all of the Aspen Mountains. My husband and I are about your same levels and we both really like skiing at Snowmass, lots of long runs there! If you are interested in saving money and want to see my place/location, shoot me a PM, more than happy to send pics and more info...

Oh, and I'm originally from Calgary, where are you from?

Hi there COcanuck,

Thanks for your response. I am just in the beginning phase of planning the trip (bought the Fodor's "Colorado" travel guide yesterday), so not sure which area(s) of CO we are going to visit yet, but thank you for the offer. Glenwood Springs looks like an amazing place, so I would definitely be interested in getting more info about renting from you. I will send you a PM.

We live just outside of Toronto, but have been to Alberta a few times. Talk about a lateral move for you in terms of living among such natural beauty!

Steamboat is another resort that has a dual snow stake. Looking good for Jan. 2, 2020. The Winter Storm Warning goes until midnight Jan. 3.

The official total for Sat night into Sun morning, Feb. 15-16 was only a few inches. But it felt like a lot more in the trees all day Sun. It kept snowing all day so the mountain emptied out after lunch due to low visibility, including times and places where there was wet snow that stuck to goggles.

Having too much fun skiing with Bill and Jason to stop for pictures or to do a trip report yet.

Sounds like the Snowstang buses are working out. As of mid-January, ridership was high enough for the financial goal to be met. Travelers are making use of the service.

https://www.dailycamera.com/2020/01...ki-areas-has-been-a-success-so-far-cdot-says/
"As the Colorado Department of Transportation prepares to run additional “Snowstang” buses on Martin Luther King Day to augment its regular weekend service, officials say the program has been successful so far in its first season of operation.

CDOT says the service is meeting its goal to cover 40% of its costs through rider fares. The rest of the cost for the service is being subsidized by the ski areas involved: Arapahoe Basin, Loveland and Steamboat. The 51-seat buses to Loveland and A-Basin have been running 49% full, according to CDOT. Steamboat buses are running 30% full, exceeding CDOT’s expectation of 25%. And it turns out 40% of the riders are out-of-state or international tourists.

“The cooperative funding by Arapahoe Basin, Loveland Ski Area, Steamboat Resort and the Town of Steamboat means the no-net-cost to taxpayer goal is also being met,” said David Krutsinger, CDOT director of transit and rail. “This is a remarkable achievement.”

The county where Telluride is located will be the second experiment with "mass testing" to help identify asymptomatic carrier of COVID-19. The first study was reported recently for a town in Italy where six people without symptoms were identified by testing and isolated. That meant they didn't unknowingly infect others. The test is based on a blood draw, not a swab. The company who created it will test the entire county for free. The reason for a shelter-in-place order is probably to facilitate the testing. There are about 8000 residents in the county.
