West Mountain is a small ski area in NY State. Castleton and Babson are colleges that race there. Well worth reading the entire story.

At West Mountain, ski racers credited with saving life of fellow competitor
Fast action by Castleton University students makes a difference for Babson skier

"QUEENSBURY, N.Y. — A day at the races nearly turned deadly for one Alpine ski racer from Babson College.
On Feb. 3, Victor Wiacek was racing down West Mountain in the giant slalom when one of his skis broke loose. It slid across his thigh, severing an artery in his left leg.

That's when ski racers Kylie Mackie and Linn Ljungemo from Vermont's Castleton University sprang into action.
. . .
Castleton University's Associate Dean for Athletics and Recreation, Deanna Tyson, told school administrators that Kylie Mackie, from Cortlandt Manor, N.Y, and Ljungemo, from Sweden, saved Wiacek's life.

"The young man's father called me and told me that the doctors in Saratoga said without the swift response on the mountain, Victor wouldn't have made it," Tyson said. "The actions that were taken by Kylie and Linn can be described as nothing but heroic. These two young women are not just incredible student-athletes but are a part of our Castleton community who were courageous and selfless in a time of desperate need."
