Coast Guard asking people to label their kayaks to avoid unnecessary searches

I was surprised to read that the Coast Guard is having a real problem with empty kayaks or canoes that end up in open water because they aren't stored properly on shore. In New England there have been 60 cases Jan-Jan 2018. The cost of an unneeded search is very high and obviously avoidable. Aside from educating people to pull the small craft like kayaks farther up on shore to avoid high tides, they are giving away labels to encourage people to put their name and contact info in the kayak, canoe, or other small boat. Permanent marker with clear tape over it works too.
