Deer Valley is celebrating its opening weekend with a celebrity ski race.

Former PM of Canada - Brian Mulroney. Not too impressive either. And Brian Williams of CBC Sports years ago at the Microbrewery. He's now with CTV Sports for the Olympics. Dec 8th and 9th is the 24hr charity race at Tremblant. Might see a few Quebec/Canadian stars then.

Oh yeah. Being a Deer Valley wanna-be, I sometimes brave going up to Park City during Sundance. Last year we had an Uma Thurman sighting, the year before was Michelle Pfeiffer. My mom rode the lift with Owen Wilson (lucky). Apparently he's a telemarker (awesome!!) and he's pretty good.

Best celebrity sighting ever was a few years ago at Snowbird. We were in the Mineral Basin Express line and my friend said "is that Rob Lowe in front of us?" I couldn't really see his face, but it looked like a possibility. As we're riding up the lift, we kept trying to catch a glimpse of his face from the chair in front of us, and we came to the conclusion that it WAS Rob and his brother Chad, and Chad's kids. I was hoping for a Hilary Swank sighting, but she must have gone to the spa instead. :p

Anyways, as we were getting off the lift, we saw Rob totally snowplowing out of control barely being able to stop. He was wearing a high-waisted glittery coat right out of the 80's, rear entry boots, and a fuggin' black headband (it was cold, and it was definitely NOT spring, not like that's ever an excuse to wear a headband. Ugh.) He looked all glammed out, but he obviously could not ski worth a damn. Jodi and I just sat and watched, since he was looking mighty disoriented. Apparently he had lost Chad and the fam. He looked at us, my friend Jodi pointed in the direction they went, saying "That way." He thanked us and plowed away. We laughed for hours, and our husbands gave us endless grief for being such fangirls about it. I guess you gotta hand it to them for branching out from the Park City celebrity haven.

Oh, I forgot another one!! We saw Tommy Moe at the top of Glory Bowl on Teton Pass last year. Cool guy, and you gotta love an ex-Olympian kickin it in the backcountry.

I'll have to check this out, since I'll probably be up there opening day. I'll bring the camera to showcase the celebrity skiers in all their gapey glory.

While I have not yet seen any, Aspen is LOADED with celebs. Jack Nicholson, Michael Douglas & Catherine Zeta Jones, Kurt Russell/Goldie Hawn, Don Johnson...there's lots around here. I guess they can be seen quite often too.

I'll be sure to keep you ladies posted. mmm, I wonder if Matt Damon skis? He should come here.

OMG...my friend got to sit next to him on a first class plane ride across the country. So jealous. She said he's WAAAY cuter in real life and he's extremely nice.

I want to say that I've heard he's a skier and he's been seen up at Deer Valley. I'll keep my fingers crossed too!!

I just looked at the 24 hr race website and Usher is playing Saturday - free concert. So I'll go to that. Skiing Celebs for the 24 hr are Melanie Turgeon and Laurie Graham, Canada's Olympians. Also some hockey players are expected - probably the hurt ones. Micheal Douglas and Catherine bought property a couple of years ago in the Tremblant area, but not sure if its winter accessible, so I can't see them skiing here.

Oh, I think that they were listed under "supporters". Not skiing. The charity is a kids cancer one, so everyone likes to show up and be seen! The race is a 24 hr Ski-A-Thon with a prize to the winning team. Starts at noon and runs all night. Never been there for it, so should be a good time partying. Skiing will be the s#$t's as they take up 1/2 the main run to the bottom.

I must have been there the same day at snowbird! Saw Rob & Chad in the Christy sports at the base. I'm glad I missed him snowplowing around, would have ruined the fantasy.

This wasn't a ski sighting but I was in a funk aerobics class with Julia Roberts once. She's very fit as you might expect.

Never saw a celebrity, but years ago my family and friends were all at Vail and we lied to our parents saying we saw ex-Pres Ford skiing, with a bunch of security guys around him. They believed us, and it was funny 'cause after we got home we heard on the news that he was there that week.

Hillarious, we have alot of celbs that live here in the Valley with us. Huey is practically my next door neighbor. You kind of get used to it and quit paying attention, I don't even know who all lives here anymore, but they seem to be everywhere. I just quit paying attention. The celebs don't ski in our area though, sometimes Big Mtn, or Big Sky, but I think the stench of the outdated septic systems in the cold dirty cement basement bathrooms around here really turns them off or something. I do tend to see alot of the athlete types though. A good handful of them grew up here. It would be fun to see Rob gaping though, that is a good one, doubt I will get to see that around here. They come here to hide and generally do a pretty good job. Occasionally they will know someone you do and you will see them at a party or something, which of course is what they pretty much do best, and as such is pretty uneventful and not noteworthy like the headband incident.

Hah, funny about the Rob Lowe sighting, a coworker of mine went on honeymoon to Bora Bora a few years ago and apparently rob had gotten one of those huts right next to theirs. They had a picture of the three of them standing on a dock ontop of that beautiful blue ocean!

It's like that Kevin Bacon game...

Remember 'Cancer Man' from the X-Files? I saw him in a ski shop in Whistler once, apparently he is a very keen skier and racer.

I've never seen anyone famous in Aspen or Telluride, but maybe this year might be the time I get on a lift with Oprah or Tom.

Last December, my son boarded a chair with a couple - turned out to be Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz - both boarders. He said, in the language of boarders, they were "chill." Not sure which resort - Copper?

During my first winter as a Maine resident, I boarded a chair with a pleasant man, had 5 minutes of the usual stranger conversation, then was surprised when the ambassadors at the top were in a line to greet the Governor of the state: "good morning, governor." Had NO IDEA ....

This was many, many years ago. We were skiing on Aspen Mountain the same day that Donald and Ivana Trump had their big fight over Marla. He was trying to chase her around the mountain but couldn't keep up since she was a former racer. Robert Urich complimented me on my jumpsuit at Deer Valley (also many years ago). I have kept the jumpsuit for retro day. It was red & white with in-the-boot stretch pant bottoms. I think he knew I was embarrased earlier when my 2 friends were going ga ga over seeing him.

I saw Glen Plake at Lunch Rocks at the base of Tuckerman Ravine in April 2005. He was filiming the Son of the Inferno Race for RSN. The spot showed quite regularly last winter. The sky was very blue and Glen's hair was very purple! What a genuinely nice guy. He shook hands and seemed very pleased to meet people.
