Carry-on boot bag that will also hold helmet?

Is there such a thing? Just realized tonight while packing for our Whistler trip that our boot/helmet bags are WAYYY to big to go carry-on. I might get away with it-only to have it not fit when I get on the plane and then have to make them stow it under the plane anyway (and pay the extra fees!). Anyone know of a boot bag/helmet bag that is carry-on size? I am having a hard time finding one.

Or, alternatively, if I go with just a standard Dakine boot bag, where do I pack my helmet?

I have a Transpack that I've used as a carry-on for my boots, with no problem. I leave the helmet out of the middle section, though, so I can squish it down if needed, and pack my helmet in my suitcase, instead. Then I fill that area up with some ski clothes, so I'll have something in case my luggage gets lost. I figure I can do without a helmet more than I can do without ski clothes!

That's a good point. But my helmet DOES fit in the Transpack, so if that's what you want to put in there, it should work. It just might be a little more bulky to try to fit in an overhead compartment. Of course, we HAVE taken helmets just attached to the outside of a carry-on. That way you can fill up the back with clothes (or leave it more empty to make sure it squishes into the compartment) and if you need to separate the helmet you can stick it separately into the overhead.

I usually pack my boots and helmet in my standard packpack. it's about 30 litres in size, and I can still get a book and mazagine in. Not the most elegant carrying case, but it works!

I have the Spyder Govy back pack that has slings for the boots and the helmet. Love it!

I just got Sierra bags from Sierra Trading Post for about $14. They fit as carry-on and hold one pair of adult boots/helmet/several gloves and hats or two pair of kids boots/2 helmets/several mittens/gloves.

I almost always carry my helmets outside the bag, just clip to the straps.

I've also seen lots of people carrying their BOOTS on their shoulder!!!

So in short, if the boot bag fits in the overhead, great. If not, take the helmet out and put it next to the bag. The remaining bag should fit into the overhead just fine.

The Dakine Boot Locker is just over the limits. On Delta Airlines, the carryon dimensions are 22x14x9. The Boot Locker is 22x15x13. Too bad. I LOVE this bag. It holds my boots, my helmet, gloves, ski pants, and tons of other stuff. I can easily go for a weekend just using that bag for my stuff. And, it matches my big roller I have from them. I have to find a smaller one now. I do like those Transpacks. I'll probably end up with one of those. But, since I'm Delta Medallion, I get 2 free checked bags, so if I stay on Delta, I'm OK. I'd just as soon check that bag and my skis and take on my daypack as my carryon, since I do use my daypack when I travel, too.

Oh, something else. If you want to donate to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, buy a pink boot bag from ebags.com. 10% of the retail sales of pink bags go to the Foundation. That includes the Transpack XTW bags. So, buy something pretty AND helpful at the same time.

thanks everyone! I bought the sierra bags from Sierratradingpost.com for $18 bucks each but I had to overnight them! Hopefully that will solve the problem. Thanks for the tips!
