this morning i opened my locker and realized that it had been broken into. my burnin luvs were gone. i sobbed. i've got 10 days before i go back to work and my partner bought me (on the spot) the only pair of skis that the guy in the ski shop said were comparable: nordica olympia victory. I pick them up tomorrow morning.... un demoed, w/o research. my choice is to spend the bucks (750.) or lose the next ten days before i go back to work. i could rent everyday but that would be be too pricy.


i loved the way that the burnin luvs would ski the icy east coast mountain, cut into any ice sheet on any grade, bailing me out if i went too fast or too steep, i loved the way they popped in the turns, making me feel like i was suspended above skis that were doing all the work. how about it, folks, can i live with the victory or shall i call him and tell the guy not to fit my boots and send away for new luvs? or will there be consolation in "victory" over the loss of the "luv??
 
The victory rocks, but the Conquer is better, and the Firefox Better yet. I liked all of these better, in fact Far better than the Burnin luv. Embrace the change and be prepared to let the Nordica Rock Your World!!!

SO SORRY to hear about your skis!

I had a similar experience happen to me years ago -- my new skis were stolen out of the guest lock up at an inn we were staying at. Like you, I sobbed. This was just when shaped skis were coming out, so it gave me a reason to get a pair, which turned into a very good thing.

Hope things turn out well for you, too.
 
well, there goes the theory that locking stuff up is better than not. I'm so sorry to read of your loss.

I hope you like the new skis so you don't lose out on your vacation.
 
:eek: How awful!! I know the feeling of having skis stolen, but I'm sure it was quite a shock to see the state of your ski locker, with the skis gone.

I hope you find the Victorys to be a more than suitable replacement!

If you have homeowners insurance, the skis should be covered. I would let my insurance agent know.

and find out what your deductible is. Mine is at least 1K so I'd be SOL. Also, here in MA, it seems that filing a claim is enough to get you canceled and assigned to a high-risk pool. If it happened to me, it would not be worth the aggravation to go through my home owner's insurance. Exactly what they want.

NOOOOOO!!!!! That is so awful, I would be heartbroken too, then I would pick myself up and go and find a new pair. :laugh:

Don't write off the Nordica's just yet, go out with an open mind and you might grow to 'luv' them too.
 
So sorry to hear that! Does the hill have some kind of coverage for that?

I haven't been on the Victory, but there are some great reviews for it. Here is one diva's review. Hopefully it'll end up being a good match for you, let us know how it goes. Worst case scenario you could flip it and put the money toward a new pair of Burnin's.
 
I think the problem with one insurance claim getting you cancelled is only applicable to things like flood/water damage where they can label your house as a risk. Particularly with items that are not even on the premises at the time, I think that's a different story.

However, it's worth asking about as those things change all the time. And it probably depends on your particular insurance company. I know when we lived in our last house, my husband had a bike stolen off his truck while we were out of town. It was locked to the rack, but they stole the whole rack... Anyway, it was one phone call and they mailed us a check for replacement value of the bike. We have a high deductible too, but the bike was on the order of $3000, so it made sense regardless.

I don't see any reason NOT to discuss it with your insurance company anyway.
 
Wouldn't really hurt to ask your agent, they should be square about it with regard to any penalties. I just hate to hear about anyone getting ripped off, and I'm so sorry.....especially given how much you like those skis. Let us know how the new ones work out. Hang in there.
 
I have the ski equipment on a sport rider on the house policy. It costs minimum/year and lowers the deductible. That may be too late for this occurance, but for the next. After I read the first post, I ask Hubby if he had taken his Elan's out of the locker at the condo and placed them in the condo. Nay, they're locked!! Oh yeah - look what happened to one of the Ski Divas. Men!

The locker was locked .... next I buy a better lock. And they only took the decent equipment out. Left two pairs of kids' skis. But, thank the ski goddess, they did leave my custom fitted boots.
 
Wow! Where are you located? I just had my skis taken "accidentally" for the third time and started a new thread about locking skis..... I know just how you feel because I didn't know if I would be getting mine back. But, it's really disturbing to hear that you had yours locked up and they went after them.

I have heard really good things about Nordica skis and the Victorys seem to be really highly recommended. So, I agree with the other Divas; give it a go. But I do know just how you feel...because I'm so used to my skis and I know just how they move!!!!

I assume from your name that you ski at Greek Peak in NY? That was probably our "home" mountain while we lived in NY, and I am sad to hear of thievery at that place. It was one of our favorites to ski at.
We never had lockers, but always used cable locks on our skis when they were on the rack.

Did you buy the Burnin' Luvs from the shop there? They may have a serial number on file for them. If anyone brings them to the shop for tune up, etc, they might be able to track the thieves down.

Boots!..........you are soooooo fortunate they left your boots. I can be fickle with my skis, but loyal to my best friends, my boots!!!

I was serious in my first post in this thread. Check with the shop and see if they'll let you try the other Nordicas I mentioned.

So sorry to hear about that. It stinks. Good luck with the new skis (or have fun if you are able to demo any others). I hope you find a "suitable replacement" Let us know how it goes.

:Cry: Wow! That sucks!! I hope that who ever swiped your skis breaks both of their legs on them!!!! I hate ski thieves! :mad2: You are very blessed that they didn't steal your boots though!!! The Victory's are fun very versitle. I felt they were less of a one trick pony than the Conquer, but the Firefox ROCK! I own both! I also have skied the Burnin Luv's quite a bit (love them). The Firefox is an up grade from them! I did the 162 in the Firefox because the 154cm were very turny!! Speed is our Friend!:ski2: PS. I have Rhinestone on the tips of my skis to make them very easy to ID. Intials in black marker works well too! I come from a Race background where we used to write our names big and bold on the tails of our skis. Much easier to see when you are tackling some thief in the parking lot. (Or find when there are a lot of people on the same Slalom skis) Anything that makes them more unique makes them less appealing to thieves!!
 
I am so in love w/ my luvs I don't know if I could recover! :( I am so sorry.
