Burning or One Luv...what should I do?

Hi Everyone:

I'm looking for some advise/opinions from other ladies out there. I'm trying to choose between Burning or One Luvs and need some help.

I'm 40 years old, and have been skiing since forever. Took a break for a bit and have been back in full gear and in desperate need of updating my extremely old (but faithful) straight skis.

I live in eastern Canada, there are some nice places to ski thoughout the season. So...any suggestions out there??

They're identical in geometry but different in construction. So the best way is for you to ski both of them on the same day over the same runs to see if you like one over the other.

I tried both of them and clearly like one over the other. Never look back. (but I'm not going to say which one ;-) so as not to influence your choice)

Hello MamaC from another Canadian!! Welcome.

Unfortunately, I can't help you much with the Burning Luv/One Luvs because I just bought new Atomics this year. Rest assured, you'll get some advice shortly from other Divas.

Glad you're having a fun season down east. It's been great in both Ontario and Quebec also so far this year.

I haven't skied the One's but I am totally in love with my Burnin's.

Both would be great skis, if you like to go a little harder and faster the Burnin is for you, if not then the One's would be fine.

If you are looking for a little better grip on hard snow, that would be the Burnin's.

If you ski off trail a lot, there are also the Lotta Luvs to consider.

OK abc....you have definately peaked my interest...now I wanna know!!!

I totally agree with you, that they should both be tried on the same runs. However, we live in a smaller area...and there are absolutely no demo skis around these parts. The rentals are also very limited in choices...so when purchasing skis, it really has to come from reviews and other peoples recommendations. There is also not alot of choices in ski shops here, so whatever I purchase will more then likely be ordered on the net.

So.....let me know which you prefered....please ;)....pretty please!!!

Hey SkiMave....which Atomics did you purchase? Atomics are actually more readily available here, my husband skis on Atomics and loves them.

OK, MamaC. I got the One Luv.

I tried both. I didn't particularly like the Burning. It felt kind of ... "planky"! Basically, it's too stiff for casual cruising. I need to "work" on it to make it bend.

Another big reason for my favoring the One Luv is I'm into bumps and NOT into speed. I see that being the biggest difference between the two. The Burning is stiff and stable. Good for speed. The One is soft and a bit whimpy. So it'll get bounced by "stuff" on the surface when you're charging down the slope. But it shines when I need it to "mold" to the contour of the bumps.

The only thing is, I'm not sure I've got them long enough. Which shows the problem with buying without extensive demo-ing. I demo the ski but not the different length. Now I'm having a second thought on that.

Awwww....Thanks abc!

Actually that is the one I'm leaning towards as well...I thought the Burning may be a bit too much ski for me. As for length I'm looking at the 153 size. I'm not quite 5'1" and weigh 145ish.

I bought the Sugar Mamas. They have a wider waist than my old Dynastar Exclusive Carves but the edges hug the hill like you wish your favourite honey would. They snap nicely out of their turns and are very stable at high speeds. I'm skiing out west with them in a few weeks (Big White where they had the avalanche....gulp) so they should be good for those nice wide turns on the groomed powder.

No worries - I don't go near the Cliff Chair or Paradise Bowl where they had the problem....

I watched the way those Sugar Mama's worked as SkiMave skied in front of me. I was impressed. They are all mountain skis. On my list to try soon.

Thanks Jilly!

You're no slouch yourself. I needed the speed to keep up with you!

Shame about Tremblant's weather........

I'm very happy with my One Luv's.

I picked the One Luv's over the Burnin Luv's because the '07 & 08's have a thicker waist and I travel west once a year. They're lighter too.

Once a year we take a ski vacation, this year we're going to Whistler, but it might be our last trip. We're thinking of saving for a vacation home at Blue.

Actually, the 07 One Luv has the same waist as the Burning, though the 05 or 06 was wider. And K2 gone back to wider waist on the 08 again.

I know it's confusing. It's not going to help our original poster.

Thanks so much to everyone for their input...decision has finally been made. I purchased the One Luv's and am Luvin' them! I was so happy on Sunday...not a bit disappointed so far. They were so much fun...can't wait to get back to try 'em again!!!

I bought the one luv's this Christmas after demoing them at the end of the season last year. It was so end of the season on the east coast, the next day the mountain closed. I figured if I loved them in such awful conditions, then they have to be good. I've ski'd them a few runs so far this winter and love them. I'm just getting back into skiing and feel like i'm learning all over.. so I wanted a ski I could control but grow in. My friend purchased the burning luv's b/c they were a bit more aggressive. She also loves them.

Enjoy your One Luvs, MamaC!

I demo'd a whole bunch of skis this December... tried Volkl, Rossi, Atomic, and K2... when I tried the One Luvs, it was like they were made for me. The next day, I took them out for a full day... I had so much fun on these skis that I bought them before I left the mountain. I LUV my One Luvs! :yahoo:

I tried the Burnin Luvs too, but like another diva, I felt like they were much harder to ski, stiff... maybe just too much for me. (I'm an advanced intermediate skier). Skiing feels effortless on my One Luvs... and I already feel like they're making me a better skier.
:ski2:

on a side note - for those on the East Coast looking to demo... the guys up at Sunday River were great and really encouraging of a diva in search of the perfect ski. The manager at Potter Bros. ski shop at Jiminy Peak was also really helpful... I tried the Volkls and K2s there first and then a few weeks later again up at Sunday River.
