Bump Busters at Copper

So I did the Bump Busters clinic at Copper this past Saturday and figured I would share what I thought about it in case anyone else was considering it. I really like this clinic. The main instructor is Steve Karp aka "Karpy" who seemed extremely knowledgable with an impressive ski resume. He is also very fun and friendly. My favorite parts of the clinic were that they video taped you skiing on the flat (as in on a groomer not bumps) and then at lunch you watched the footage and the instructors pointed out what you're doing wrong and what you're doing right. I thought it was really helpful to be able to actually see some basic flaws in my ski stance. They also did alot of drawing the proper line for you on the snow with powder paint. I've always had trouble picking the proper line in the bumps and this really helped me see what my line should look like. Overall I thought this was a great experience and it gave me lots of good tips to help improve my bump skiing. My only complaint would be that the group was a little big (10 people with 2 instructors); I would have liked a little more personal attention for my $80.

A 5 to 1 ratio I think is pretty good actually considering a 2 hour private (before current discount) is $265. Right now cost/benefit wise you'd probably be better off doing a private.

But, all in all I'm glad the experience was a good one.

I think the ratio would have been totally fine if both instructors were equal, but the second instructor was really more of a helper for Karpy. We spent most of the day skiing as one group with Karpy doing most of the instructing. So for the most part it felt more like a 10 to 1 1/2 ratio rather than 5 to 1. But overall it was a really great experience!

Follow-up

So this weekend was the first time I skied again after taking Bump Busters and all I can say is WOW! The difference in my bump skiing was amazing! DBF even noticed the difference and said he had never seen me ski the bumps that well. I just can't say enough good things about this clinic! :bounce:

I love Bump Busters. Karpy is great. I have done it 3 or 4 times and learn something new every time. Even with larger groups, he does a good job.
