Brundage, Idaho

I had a fun weekend visiting Brundage in McCall Idaho.
I have soem very good friend that own a house there and this is the first winter visit. Always we've gone in the summer and taken all the summer toys: whitewater rafts, mountain bikes and so on.

Anyway, the region has been getting hammered with snow but now a high is locked into place. This means, blue bird skies and crisp snow. I guess you can't have everything.

It's a mid sized mountain, mostly intermediate, about 1800' feet of vertical. Due to conditions we had to mostly stay on the groomers with a few exceptions on north facing runs. Some of the best snow was found on NW Passage, a double diamond chute with fabulous soft bumps, 45 Parallel, a nice long steep blue groomer, and Swinger, another bump run. I can only imagine how much fun you'd have here on a powder day!!!!

The view from the top is fabulous, looking into the heart of the Idaho rockies. If you are looking for a full service destination resort, this ain't it. But, it is a great fun large family mountain that's unpretentious, uncrowded, and usually has great snow.

The crud did soften up by late afternoon so I had a lot of fun plowing though that late in the day.

It's been a couple of years, but I liked Brundage too! We went up, I think twice -- I did a silly, klutzy "season ender" while there the second trip, but that was okay, because it was the last day of the season anyway! (the other trip that direction may have been Tamarack instead of Brundage -- but there may have been three trips up that highway that winter. Memory is foggy tonight!)

I agree -- scenery is wonderful, and snow was amazing, even in mid April! And yes, it's also not a "destination resort" but nearby McCall is a pretty town that's a pretty good destination. The lodge building was comfortable -- nothing fancy, but light, airy, and with plenty of windows for watching the action while taking a break! I'd go back in a heartbeat!

Brundage mountain runs

If you hike up the trail behind the patrol shack on top of the mountain it will take you to some steeper runs. When the snow is great, I love Meadow Bowl, Mexico and Dixie. Hidden Valley also has some interesting runs. These are not for beginners or intermediates skiers if you have them in your party. Have fun exploring.

avvy conditions were fairly interesting. The guys took beacons and hiked out to Seargent's and came down on the second day.
The best snow was on NW passage.

yeah I'd like to hit it some nice dumpage.
Oh well, the company was good. I can't complain about having friends in McCall who like us to visit lots, and bring the toys!!
