Someone has to have them... How is the 164 stiff compared to the Volkl Aura's stiffness? I think I want a pair, they are FAT!

SnowHot's got a 174 soft. Bklyn has . . . something. . . I am not sure which one. . .

I was going to try to hop on SnowHot's in ABasin, but never got around to it. Dying to try them too.

That's right. I have the 174 Softs, and they are plenty stiff. Bklyn has the 179 Standards.
Dims on them are 125-99-114. 32 M TR
I believe Bklyns sidecut dims are the same as mine.
She can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think hers are two years old.
I've skied on mine 3 days in Colorado, and two days here at home.
I love these skis for spring crud, soft snow and stability. They have shocked me on the ability to make a nice edge to edge transition, making short turns easier than I figured they would, but owning the mountain on big GS'y turns.

They are the most confidence inspiring ski I've ever been on, and I'd really miss them if I had to let them go!

*I dont' have a comparison to the Aura but will when we get to Abasin in May!

I have the 179 stiff from when they first came out 2.5 seasons ago.
The stiffness was in between what they are now considering the stiff and the soft, but after over 200 days on them they're now pretty soft.

Sorry, I can't compare them to Auras for you. The Bros officially come in 2-3 stiffnesses per length, so the question is how soft/stiff do you want your skis.

164 is short for a twin tip, are you petite? Considering where you live, you'll probably enjoy a longer ski. The Bros aren't at all challenging to ski, but if you are one of those divas that isn't open to long or wide skis, they will probably not be for you.

Oragejuice -

You need something longer than 164, especially with a twin tip. The effective edge of a twin tip is shorter.

AND....you have big mountains and powder where you ski!:becky:

What are your stats?
For comparison, I'm 5'6" 125 ish lbs
This is a pic NVG took of me with my 174

And a pic of the Abasin wild divas.

This may give you an idea of length.

5'5" 170lbs. Probably about 150 by next season. Strong level 7 skier. I love fat skis, as long as they have enough sidecut for me to carve them. The problem with longer skis = I'm currently skiing 150s, only been on skis for three years. Not too keen on the idea of very long skis, trees and steeps give me the impression that shorter skis are a better idea? I'm probably going to be getting 163 Auras next year, and that feels like they are going to be too long, but I'm going to do it anyways. You only lose about 4cm on the tails of twintips...

And yes, we DO have big mountains here, but considering that I've been skiing knee+ deep and lots of trees on 150 Salomon Verse (83 waist?)... Yeahhhh anything helps.

174 would probably be a better choice. Contact the company, they have some demo centers and customers that will let you try before you buy.

What Bklyn said^^^^

I notice you're a member on EpicSki. Shoot a pm to splitter or TyroneShoelaces. Both of them are extremely knowledgeable about the Bro line and both will hook you up with some info on a demo area near you.

I'll check them out. Thanks for the names, Snowhot, I'll get a hold of them.

I mis-wrote my current ski waist though, its a 73, not 83. Not your average powder ski... =)

But seriously? Going from 150 to 170= tough??

You know, it may seem like a big jump from 150 to 174, but I'm afraid that you'll outgrow a 164 far too easily if you are skiing the type of terrain you're skiing right now.
With your stats, and progression, I think the 174 will amaze you.
When it comes time to mount and figure out bindings, check back here. The right set up makes all the difference!!!

No, Oragejuice. It won't be as tough as you think. When I first started skiing (I was in my 20's) I had 160cm Rossi's. (I'm 5'10" and probably was 150 lb then...I'm now 165lb:redface: ).

I moved out to Boulder CO for grad school. On a whim, I bought a pair of 177cm Rossi's at a summer ski sale. The first few runs on them took a bit of getting used to (and I KNOW that I was not as strong a skier then as you are now), but then they were awesome. The extra length gave me so much more speed and stability, and float.

So, that was a one-time jump of 17cm. And that was on the first-generation of "shaped" skis.

Today's skis, especially most twin tips, are easier to ski. You won't have a problem, and like SnowHot says, they will allow you to progress more than you ever imagined.

Those Bros are REALLY cool skis. I think a 174 would be perfect for you. Don't let length scare you off! Allow it to work for you!

Atleast I have the summer to talk myself into it, eh?

It ALSO means WE have the summer to convince you!:eyebrows:

Seriously, I'd contact a rep from Bro and have a conversation with him. You may be able to demo them early next year to help with your decision.

The people at PM Gear love to work with their customers. VERY customer oriented.
The workmanship of the skis is phenomenal.

If you were to make a trip to Abasin with the Divas in May, I'd be happy to let you try mine.
I have Dukes on them so they can be adjusted to a long range of bsl's

You know, its funny, I might make it to that. My mother and I were thinking of flying out in May to check out the CMC campuses and look around, since I've never been to Colorado. There's a very small chance.

I'm serious about the offer. Keep checking the Abasin thread in the DOD area. You show up and I'll be happy to set you up to try them.
