Ski Diva Extraordinaire
I FINALLY got my first ski day of the season yesterday at Breckenridge. It's been a long wait, but with my new boots, new skis, and new (kinda) knee, I drove up to Frisco to meet up with KatyPerrey, Betsy, and Betsy's husband, Don. I'm pretty shy around new people, but they seemed nice enough, so we packed up the cars and headed down the road to Breck. Little did I know what I was getting myself into...
It was a cold and windy day, with just the teeniest bit of fresh snow. Later in the morning, the snow moved in and the wind picked up even more. BRRR.
Katy, Betsy, and Don were nice enough to hang with me on the blue groomers while I got my skis back under me. They're all VERY good skiers, so I felt kinda guilty that I was holding them back, but they insisted I wasn't. At one point, someone asked if we were ready for some bumps. I said, "Sure...as long as they're easy." Next thing I know, I'm headed down a double black.
It really was a relatively easy double black, but still...I had a bit of mental block/freak-out and Katy was awesome enough to talk me all the way down the run. My knee and the rest of me was fine, but I'm not sure my *brain* was quite ready for it.
I had a great time skiing with Katy, Betsy, and Don. I can tell that Katy is an AWESOME instructor, and she's a lot of fun, too. My knee held up pretty well, just a little sore today. I was really sore last night, especially in the shin area. I think my new boots may need a little tweaking, but overall the boots and skis (the vaunted Lady Hart Twin Tips) were great. I can't wait to test them out some more.
Here's my one picture from the day...it was just too darn cold to get the camera out, although Don got some more pics. Maybe Betsy will stop in and post some!
