According to my friend's altimeter, we did over 14 thousand vertical feet today... the most I've ever skiied in my life in one day. Very warm, didn't even need a hat today. Vents in coats and pants open. We were "working from home" today... which =

Brilliant... I have been wanting to ask someone who skis at Breck... we weren't planning to get back there next month, but we might consider it if the terrain from the new chair really makes it worthwhile. My favourite skiing at Breck is the bowls off the T-Bar.. eg Horseshoe Bowl, and the idea of this stuff reached by a chair is pretty tempting. Is it worth it? And have you ever skiied the Lake Chutes? Is it worth the (fairly short I understand) hike?

I haven't been in the bowls yet... a year ago I hadn't ever skiied! I'll ask around and let you know what everyone thinks of the Imperial Express Chair (what you are inquiring about). I hear it's great, but it's so high you have to catch it at perfect conditions (i.e. not too much wind/too cold/etc...) I'll get back to you... mostly all of us consider Breck our home hill. By the end of this season, I should be able to answer your question myself! :becky:

Thanks for that, anything you could find out would be great. Horseshoe Bowl is not very difficult, it's wide, generally nice and smooth and holds great snow, you should definitely give it a go.

Hey Shell, we were at Breckenridge last year and spent the majority of our time on the Imperial Express superchair (that's what you're asking about right? Cause it was there last year so your 'new' threw me off... I might be thinking of another chair). We really liked the terrain off of the chair and the 'hike' to get to some of the other stuff (as you exit the chair you veer left at the elevation sign as I recall) was pretty much nonexistent, there was a cattrack that took you over to it. It didn't seem as crowded as the rest of the mountain either. I got some really sweet face shots on one area I do remember. :D I do know there were some chutes you could hike to but we didn't do those so I can't help you with them.

While I will never be up to the challenge of skiing the Lake Chutes, from my honey's perspective, they are worth it. Not real long, but they're STEEP (probably about 50 degrees) and well worth the hike. People say there's 'nothing good at Breck,' but there's some really good terrain if you know where to look for it. Have fun and be safe!

When I first read this, I thought " I was in Breckenridge today it was incredibly cold w/ insane winds, no sun and limited visibillty".

Then I saw the date originally posted...:noidea:
