I know I NEED to go to a store to get properly fitted, but, I am overwhelmed and dont know where to start!!

I am an an advanced skier, but still need help perfecting my bump skiing. I feel comfortable skiing down almost anything (tho it may not be super pretty!)

The problem is that I have this very annoying bunion on my left foot. So, I need a boot with a fairly wide toe box. I've been comfortable in Nordicas and Salomon boots in the past. I'm just so overwhelmed with so many brands I dont even know where to start looking. Any suggestions would be very appreciated!

Actually, I would go with a boot that fits the rest of your foot and then have the spot where the bunion is blown out. I just had a couple of spots on my boots blown out and it works wonders while not forcing you to give up fit in other places of your feet. A good boot fitter will know how and when to do that for you.

Hi I split my time between Durango and Telluride. Telluride boot fitting is spendy though so I need to boot shop in Durango.

bootfitting in Durango

As far as I know, there really aren't any true bootfitters in the Durango area. I ski up there quite a bit when I can, but Telluride has a Bootdoctors. My experience with them was nothing extraordinary and they did charge way too much for the little that they did. However, that might be an isolated case. "Spendy" is also a relative term considering the importance of a great boot fit. If I were you, I'd drive to Breckenridge and see Jeff Bergeron at Norway Haus. He runs Boot Fixation out of that shop and is also one of the Epic forum "boot guys." He's a perfectionist and well worth the efforts to get there if you're in Colorado. (I live in Arizona, went there.)

thanks Badger for your suggestions! There actually is an unoffical bootfitter in durango, in the shop at the ski area, I may check them out. I also recently heard of a great bootfitter that is now giving Bootdoctor in Telluride a run for their money, he is actually a certified Pedorthist whatever that means! His site is screamindoggies.com. Its the brands really that are throwing me, there are so many I dont know where to start, I am basically wanting to find a boot I like and then ebay it hopefully.

Ideally, you should let your foot decide.

What I mean is that some brand names fit foots differently. I have a narrow foot and Lange & Salomon have narrow shells whereas, Atomic and Technica are generally wider. (This isn't always true either, but using it for example)

A bootfitter will feel your foot first and watch you walk around the room.

Here's a great sticky explaining the process.
