Booster Strap

I was reading my Ski Press Magazine and they had a little product review about something called the Booster Strap. Has anyone tried this? The review claims Bode Miller and others wear it....it stretches around the top part of the boot around the back of your lower leg. It supposedly helps you instantly start turns etc. The photo shows it right above the top buckle, sort of on the high tongue part which comes up. There's also web site if anyone needs to see what I'm talking about...boosterstrap.com.

It sounds like of neat, but I'd be curious to hear if anyone has it and uses it.

I've tried them but didn't particularly like them. Basically, I felt that they took more time to get set up comfortably every day than regular power straps (easier to have too loose or too tight than regular power straps IMO) and had a much greater likelihood of overtightening them and losing circulation in my feet. Plus, you can't really get them on without taking your gloves off (and my hands get cold), whereas I can do regular power straps and buckles with my gloves on. (If you put your boots on indoors this probably isn't an issue, but I put mine on at the truck).

Considering I generally like skiing with my power straps really loose anyway, I figured it's not worth the extra hassle.

But my husband has been using them for 7 or 8 years and absolutely cannot ski without them. Of course, he's not familiar with the concept of getting cold either.

I just got a pair of these that I've used for about a week. So far, so good. I'd been having some shin issues that I was accommodating (at my bootfitter's suggestion) by pulling the power strap very tight and fastening it beneath the plastic cuff. The problem with this is that it reduces flexibility. So my bootfitter recommended trying the Booster Straps, and so far I like them! I think I'll know more after the Diva Summit, when I put in 6 days of consecutive skiing.

Mixed feelings. When I was trying to put off replacing my last pair of boots, they were really helpful-- I wasn't trying to overtighten buckles, and was getting plenty of control and no shin bang from my packed-out boots.

That said, I tend to get cold feet, and I was having to monkey with the straps a LOT in order to avoid numb feet. But maybe I just didn't try them long enough and garner enough skill at putting them on?
