Black Friday Shopping

Are you one of those people who has to get out and go Christmas shopping at 4AM the day after Thanksgiving?

I couldn't believe it, but according to their TV commercial, that's when JC Penney is opening today. I know a lot of stores are opening extra early, but 4AM?????

Just curious -- anyone out there help the store manager open the doors?

Umm...no, cuz I start my shift @ 3am..so I'm at work before the doors open!

The outlet stores in Colorado openened at midnight and from reports, the parking lots were full by 2am

Kohl's opened at 4AM, too. I've been working part-time at Target and we opened at 6AM (normal time is 8AM).

I've never been a fan of the frenzy. I did it...twice. Won't again. Just not worth the headaches. Of course, I do most of my shopping online anyway so I guess I'm just not the target audience for this stuff.

Regardless, I have to work tonight 6PM-midnight...can't wait to see what kind of shambles the store is in by then!

I will wander over to the North Face store today when I head towards Boulder to see family but not until around 11 and only to try some things on since I have a friend that works for North Face and can get things for me for cheap.

I've done the early opening the day after Christmas but only because they had a great deal on down comforters at Foley's and I was already going to be up to ski and wouldn't make it home before their early bird specials were done. There were only around 15 people waiting and I was the only one who headed toward the house stuff.

Correction: I'm heading to a ski shop today before I go to the gym. They have some ridiculous 80 percent off sales on apparel, and the normal 50 percent off or more on last year's equipment.

Well I went out and did the "wait outside a store to get a limitted supply item" for the first time ever today. I got 2 Wii's!!:yahoo:

One for my nephews... and one for my husband. :becky: (i'll play it too... but !)

HA! I've never gotten up to do the Black Friday thing. My mom does, and my sister does, but I've never had the interest in doing this crazed thing.

Here's my recipe for stress-free Xmas shopping:

Stay away from frantic crowd scenes, especially on Black Friday.

Agree with your closest friends and your husband that you will not exchange gifts this year. Spend the money you saved on actually getting together or going on fun trips.

For those people you are buying gifts for, keep a running list all year long. Bookmark sites that have those gifts, or check out what ebay has to offer.

When it's time to buy, just start clicking, and checking things off the list you so wisely kept.

Wrap everything and congratulate yourself with a glass of whatever.

Or, you just ski...

I never heard the term "Black Friday" until this season -- has it been around for long? And doesn't "Black Tuesday" refers to the day that the stock market crashed and the Great Depression began? If so, why use the same type of term when referring to a huge shopping day, which is supposedly good for the economy since the GNP is so dependent on consumer spending?

The name came into use as it is traditionally the day that stores go from red to black in the profits (which is good in accounting speak) and the rest of the season is profit. Until that day everything they sell just covers cost. Obviously it's not an exact thing but you get the idea.

OK, that does make sense. The whole Black Tuesday thing is what threw me off....

My parents had a clothing store when I was growing up, and the term Black Friday has been around for as long as I can remember.

A newer term is Cyber Monday -- the day after the Thanksgiving break when everyone goes back to work and uses their office computers to order stuff on-line.

So who did that today?????

Or, you just ski...

I like the way this girl thinks!!

Seriously, every year I have grandiose plans of getting my shopping done by T-day, but I end up buying a bunch of useless crap at the last minute. At least this year I'm not distracted by the snow.....
