Bindings Mounting on Park Skis

The Dynastar Marie Martinod Pro models are in! Beautious! Before I take them to the shop, though, I just want to verify my understanding of what I need to ask for. They came with unmounted bindings. Since these are "technically" a park ski (freestyle), am I correct in assuming that the mark for bindings is where one would want them if using them as park skis and that, since I want to use them as all mountain skis, I should have the bindings set 2-5cm back from that? I thought I read that somewhere, but I'd really hate to be wrong. And since I have to take them to a new shop (since the old shop has screwed up people's park skis that were being mounted differently) I really want to be specific with these people.

Why can't I edit my previous post?

In any case....

ETA: looks like I may have this backwards (hence why i'm trying to verify): (considering the source though: https://www.hitemposkishop.com/twintips.html )
Many Riders mount their skis forward of the ski manufacturers traditional midsole mounting point. This will provide increased control riding switch and better balance rotating on and off axis. However, moving the binding too far forward can cause a ski to lose stability at higher speeds, so consider your needs wisely. K2’s research and devolpment team has devised a scale that can help skiers determine their own mounting point based on their skiing style. This scale can be adapted to many twin tips on the market today. Here is how their scale breaks down…

0-2cm forward: All Mountain: If you plan on skiing mostly outside the park and want the ski to behave like a traditional ski, you should stay on the conservative side and mount traditionally.
3cm- 5cm forward: 50% All Mountain, 50% Terrain Park. When mounting beyond 3cm, you will lose a little of the traditional feel of length in front of the binding, but with more tail, you gain the control in the air and riding switch.
6cm- 7.5cm forward: If you bought the skis primarily for the terrain park or are focused on riding switch in powder or in backcountry, you may consider mounting your skis this far forward. While you may sacrifice forward directional float and stability, it’s made up for in the switch riding and landing stability and balance in the air.

Mounting on this ski will be pretty much similar to any other flat (non-twin tip) ski you buy. I know when people bring in twins to mount at our shop, the shop tech will mount them at the manufacturers reccommended mounting point unless the skier specified otherwise. If you want to make sure they're mounted for all mtn skiing as opposed to park, go ahead and talk to the shop guy and tell them you want a more traditional mount (not centered). I believe the quote you posted from the K2 site deals with how many cm forward you want to be from the set midsole...if you're skiing everywhere but the park you don't have to worry about specifying 2,3,4, or 5 cm forward of the midsole point. If anything (depending on the ski) you might be a cm or two back of the midsole point.

For example, if a kid comes in and is skiing a lot of park and some all mountain, i'll tell him to set himself about 3cm back of center (which is probably a good few cm forward from the manufacturer's set midsole) because that will give him great advantage in the park but won't take away from him skiing aggressively all around the rest of the mountain.

Hope that wasn't too confusing!!

I have been lax on replying on this sorry!
Shall I repeat what I posted on AZ?
I mounted my Blue house skis center

However, I think the safe assumption is 1 cm back from BOF, which is the Ball of Foot at the center of Contact length.

Depending on the purpose of the ski, you may or may not want to have your ski mounted Center like I had with the BlueHouse! I'm experimenting. Hope the experiment doesn't make the lab explode:attention:

I was doing my best to ensure I got a good answer. :D I really want to use this ski for ungroomed stuff... whether that's trails at MRG or SB that are ungroomed, trees (which I want to try this year)... there is a slight possibility that I may have to do moguls at some point this year since Brian is really interested in them now.

Are you skiing a good chunk in the park as well? Once you've gotten a good chunk of time on them you should tell us how it skis at that mounting position!

But back to the ski mounting situation, you definitely could mount them center, but some people say that makes your tips dive in pow. Really I think its personal preference. I ski my pow skis about 3 back of center; but i've heard of other people who've skied at center and really like it!

I agree with this.
That's why 1 back from bof is standard for general purposes.

As I said, I really wanted to take a chance with this Bluehouse and figured it was worth a shot.

I'll definitely report back when I get a chance to get them out there.

My recommendation to severine is still 1 back from BOF.
I understand that she wants to do some experimenting of her own and I have to say kudos for stepping out there!!
Gotta love a daring diva!
