Biking Dreams....

So, I keep having these biking dreams every couple nights... snippets of crazy DH switchbacks. Sometimes I'll do a wheelie and start riding around on the back wheel. Of course, I clean everything without a problem in these dreams.

Does anyone else have biking dreams?

Well, I so rarely remember a dream that I don't know but I wish I did! However your dreams sound like fun! :D

Okay, so after posting this, I had my first biking nightmare last night!! hahaha

In my dream, I ordered an Ibis Mojo and went to the store to pick it up just before my Thursday night group ride.

But, when I get there, the bike looks like a beach cruiser and the handbars are curved back so the bar ends point to the rider.

And, to top it off, there were some kind of hinges on the handle bar halfway past the grips, so they are flopping all around....

I was sooo bummed out. I couldn't figure out how I was going to ride this thing down the hill over rocks and roots and what not with the handle bars flopping open and closed.

So, I decided to go to another store to rent a proper Mojo for my ride! But, by the time I finished the paperwork, it was 8:30pm and the ride was over... I was sooo sad.

Connie - that's funny!

I haven't remembered a dream in a long time, but I had a lovely one about skiing last night. I never got to the skiing part, but I was getting suited up (lovely outfit) and standing in line to get tickets or something. The line was along a winding grassy lane and some people were sitting and picnicking while they waited, and I recognised a lot of my friends - some that I haven't skied with in 10 years or more. It was a really warm and welcoming dream.

I don't need Freud to help me work it out, I am eagerly awaiting opening day!

I had one in the middle of ski season at some point where I had to load my skis on a separate lift from the one I was riding. And the only exits to the chair were at grassy areas with no snow... and when there was snow I couldn't get access to my skis.

Maybe it's better I remember my dreams so infrequently. ;)

Why is it that we seem to carry our frustrations into our dreamworld more than our other experiences?

It's quite rare for me to have (or remember) happy dreams, that's why it was so wonderful to have a calm relaxing one about waiting patiently for skiing.

Does anyone have any tips for setting yourself up for positive dreams?

Saturday night I went to bed thinking about riding and clearing the same log that tossed me off last year (hubby shown riding said log here:smile:

I dreamed that I rode it successfully not once, but twice on the singlespeed! However, come the next day when I faced it for real, I chickened out right at the entrance ramp (again, not once, but twice :mad:smile:.

I'm so out-of-it to your level of riding that when you say "ride a log" I thought you meant go over the center of it, not ride along the skinny top, eeek.

How sad that the dream didn't work like sports psychology (sp?) that having envisaged yourself being successful it should have made you just go for it...

I've noticed if I'm thinking too hard or too much about something (the day before a big ride or the night before a storm/powder day), I tend to have really weird, stressful dreams. As much as I want to dream about the perfect powder day or finally cleaning a hard section of a trail, it's usually completely the opposite.

I find I have the best, most postitive dreams on nights when I go to bed relaxed with a clear mind, which is actually quite difficult. I think the key is to have absolutely no self-doubt in your head when you're falling asleep - if you're thinking of biking, etc, any doubt or fear you may have lurking in the back of your mind will manifest itself in a dream.

In terms of remembering dreams - I got very good at that in high school by keeping a dream journal. I know we all have SO MUCH time in the morning (yeah right), but if you take 2 minutes to grab a notebook from your nightstand and jot down everything you remember, it's amazing what comes back to you when you read it later in the day. It's important to start writing as soon as you wake up since dreams have a strange way of slipping away extremely fast. You can get a lot of insight into your subconscious with the dream journal - it's sometimes a little freaky to see what your brain is trying to work out in your sleep.
