Ok, let's blame this thread on Altagirl--she showed her bike quiver on the "bike advice?" thread. Those of us that have a variety of bicycles, let's show them off! (And, Altagirl, please re-post!)

The newest addition out enjoying Moab:

And I need to find a picture of my motorcycle too. We went on a 4 day trip to Moab last weekend and spent two days riding motos on Amasa Back, Kane Creek. It is so, so much fun. So much work too, maneuvering about 250lbs around, up and over the rocks, but I totally love it. I don't even know which I'd say I prefer. It's just lucky they seem to work different muscles!

seriously

:D You want to see my quiver? Now that would just make you laugh.
We have in our garage:
1) Schwinn - Deeelight
2) Univega - Country Max ( Hey I only paid $20.00 for this one, I needed something to ride the Hiawatha trail with my daughter when she got her training wheels off. It still runs!! But the cogs are almost perfectly round now. )
3) My (old ) SS a Purple Queen Bee. Compliments of my Mom who thought we could use my old bike at our house. If I could only find an original sissy bar and columbine seat for this it would be one hottttt ticket. This one Rocks!!!!!!!
4) Diamond Back something or other. I was embarassed at first because the handle bars were bent. But when I noticed these on other late model bikes and twisted them forward a little so I wouldn't be such a dork. I probably still am, but won't know unless you tell me.
5) Little Giant this one is actually kind of nice.

Now would you really like to see a photo? I could also put the Tyrolia Mogul Jazz extreme with the tele mount in there ( what lowbaggers we were ) along with some leather boots and our Prijon Hurricane ( the big water down river boat, must keep it. ) How about the Gnu Sissy too? Or better yet, how about a garage sale or a dump truck?:p

Here's 1 of my 4

This is my latest baby. She's less than a year old, custom built for me. I other road bike is an Aegis Swift and my mtn bikes are a Titus Racer X and a Voodoo. I'll post pictures of them when I get them downloaded from the old computer.

I don't have picture of them together and won't since they're in different locations. (I'm fortuante to have a second home) But I have 3 and going on for the 4th one.

* One road bike -- Trek 5000 (not a common model, it's basically a step down 5500. Don't think TREK market them any more) This is the one I used the most, and got the most milage on.

* One full suspension mountain bike -- Santa Cruz Superlight. This is my most prized bike, and the one I show off (and show off ON).

* A Diamondback hardtail -- basically a bike that's left over since I got the Superlight. It's now my commute bike with fairly narrow tires. It's also perfect for guests too, since it can either be used as a light duty mountain bike, or pump up the front shock to be stiff and be a road bike. Sometimes, I "borrow" parts from it when needed. ;)

* A bike in the process is a cycle-cross. It's destine to be my second road bike for the most part. And I hope it will make tame off-road trails more interesting again! ;) When it comes into being, it'll likely replace the Diamondback as my "multi-purpose" bike for both commuting and fair weather riding. Then the Diamondback will become a dedicated "parts bin".

It's funny I never think twice buying more bikes but think really hard getting more skis. I think it's because, after all, I get to ride my bikes a whole lot more than I ski.

I other road bike is an Aegis Swift Kathi

That's quite unusual for an Aegis in the Rockies. I believe Aegis is small custom builder in the northeast. It's rare people even know about it out west. How did you come into getting an Aegis?

 I used to live in Cincinnati. I was riding a Cannondale. I liked the bike but it was so stiff it beat me to death on rough roads. So I was in the market for a new bike. This was Y2k and there were very few high end bikes in my size. About that time I read about the Swift in a magazine called Women's Sports and Fitness. I told my bike shop about it and they thought it was my best option so they ordered for me.

I love the bike, carbon fiber is an awesome material for a lightweight rider. Sadly, the shop didn't fit me properly, they cut the steerer tube to short, the mistake was 4 cm so I had to get a new fork which resulted in handling problems with the bike. So I decided to get a custom frame, chose a really good fitter and have an awesome fit.

My Swift is a beautiful little bike, I'll post pictures as soon as the weather clears here. It spoiled me and I found out it is difficult to get most carbon frames in my size so my Serotta is a combination of carbon and ti.

Serotta is a NY company but very popular and well known here.

Alright, I'll try to get all these into place. I also have an older KHS road bike that I use only in the rain and a Trek hard tail mountain bike. I'm thinking about getting a new Specialized Ruby Pro road bike this year, but I may have already spent the money, so we'll have to see.:(

My husband always wants a tandem DH bike. And I've told him he'd better go shopping for someone to ride it with him too...

I love riding technical DH terrain. And I don't mind wrecking. But the thought of riding technical DH terrain without being able to have any control over where I'm going? He's out of his mind.

Funny story to go along with that.... We were riding up Amasa back one day. I was a ways behind my husband on the climb - I'd been messing with my bike or something. He passed a couple going down the trail on a tandem DH bike. He was so excited and was going to try and convince me to get one too. By the time they got to me - about 1/4 mile later, it was a guy on a tandem bike with a girl walking down the trail shreiking that she was never getting on that $&#^% thing again!

Good one, lol. And a good idea not to get literally tied to hubby while undertaking technical activities. My hubby and I were dared to take the topo duo down a stretch of whitewater one time. Of course I am always up to a dare. The timing on our rolls was so different...All I am going to say is if you must tandem anything technical with anyone, make sure it's with someone you are NOT comfortable saying the "f" word around. Otherwise, that's all that may be spoken. It is the most versatile word in the english language after all.

altagirl - great story! I'm with you. I'd be too nervous about letting someone else control where we're going. Besides, if I make a mistake that causes me to wipe out - fine. If I make a mistake that takes someone else with me? I'm not OK with that.

I'll try to get photos of my bike quiver this weekend. My road bike is a Schwinn Paramount. My bad weather, bang-around bike that's currently hooked up to my trainer is an old Bridgestone R3-3 that weighs a ton.

1) Bianchi Eros (w/butterfly saddle)
2) Trek Multitrack hybrid - my reliable ride for many years
3) Raleigh M40 mountain bike (hardly used)

Nice photos everyone! At some point, I'll figure out how to attach photos.......

Just took delivery of my 4th bike, a Gunner cycle-cross! Silver with black letters, carbon fork (black). Look very spiffy! Rode about 3-4 miles loop straight from the bike shop. SWEAT!!! :D

The pedal the shop loaned me to test the bike was set so tight I couldn't get out of them. Had to hold onto a tree with one hand and yank on my shoes with the other to get out!!! ;)

3) Raleigh M40 mountain bike (hardly used)

Ski Spirit, you've got to take that mountain bike out! You're in some of the most beautiful and fun single tracks around and you don't use your mtn bike??? (I lived in Mountain View till 2 years ago, still had fond memory of riding the Open Space trails up on Skyline after work, sunset on bike! )

Thanks for the good advice abc. I love to go out for rides after work in summer (so relaxing) but have mainly been on the road bike. I need Volklgirl to come out and give an intro to mountain biking. Actually, I got the mtn bike originally because I had read about a trail that sounded fantastic. I actually left to go riding on this trail and found I couldn't secure the mtn bike to my bike rack; I had to turn back because the bike was really swaying (kind of a lame excuse; I'm sure I could figure it out if I set my mind to it). So..here's my current list of excuses..no time (always working!), no one to ride with, mtn bike is a cheap bike in comparison to the Bianchi..so I'm really spoiled, some pretty nice road rides to do (and lots of opportunities w/a bike club). I'd still like to do the one ride that caused me to buy the bike in the first place...we'll see this summer...
at the moment focused on learning to inline skate!!

OMG! I LOVE this thread!

I have:
1) my schwinn from 1972 when I learned how to ride a bike (basket and banana seat and all!)
2) my 10 speed schwinn from high school and college
3) my Specialized (purple....) that has gone exactly 50 miles at the most!
4) my tandem...because now I have no balance to ride alone!
5) and my pride and joy.....a vintage 3 wheeler that I put back together with my dad last summer with a basket (with a seat belt) in the back for my Scottie, Kadie! I can ride alone on this bike! It's so cute! I've seen several of them on the streets in magazines of NYC! Perfect for grocery shopping because of the basket!

I know....dork! :D

Look up romp.org. They do after work rides. In fact, if they haven't changed it, they have a Wed. after work ride in Santa Terresa, which is also right where you're. They've been doing that for years, at least when I was there. Best part is it's a relatively easy ride. There're others but I forgot the details now.

The best after work ride I did with ROMP was the once a month Friday sunset ride at Henry Coe park. It's a long way down. But EPIC would almost be an understatement!

I really thought I'd get a roadie if I got another bike, but after doing some fun stuff on the trails, I bit took a plunge and got a FS bike to go with my hard tail.
I have to say..........I love them both and will have fun doing with them what they do best.
Of course..........being trekchick on Epic, it was an obvious choice for me to buy another trek.

Adding to the Quiver

My husband had been telling me for three years that I need a new road bike, but I'd been telling him I already had a perfectly good (20-year-old) road bike & wasn't interested--the teal Trek, above. That was until the other day when we went on a 22-mile ride, the first 7.5 miles of which were up a pretty steep hill ("mountain" according to the locals). Half way up I started wondering how much easier it would be on a new bike ("Lots!" according to him later), then flying down the hill/mountain I wondered if a new ride would be less jarring ("Totally!" according to him later). At the bottom he, without knowing what I'd been thinking, got a grin on his face and asked if I'd changed my mind yet--he hadn't even mentioned he was talking about a bike--I just looked at him and started to laugh. So I took some test rides on women's bikes and found they are incredibly good, and actually fit properly, and after investigating the '08 Specialized line that's coming out this fall, I settled on an "S-Works" Ruby. Fortunately, I get megabucks off due to my husband working at a ski/bike shop; unfortunately, I have to wait for it. I'll post a pic as soon as it comes in.

QQ-

That's sweet.....I was just reading one of the bike mags - they were doing a "Top Three" from different catagories and the Ruby was their choice for Women's Road Bike.

Definitely post up pics when you get it!
