Big Sky/Moonlight Basin - 1/6 to 1/11

Last week, I finally got on the slopes for the first time this season. Before this trip, Mr. Karen and I had only spent a half day at Big Sky (on our way to Grand Targhee after an airline issue landed us in Bozeman rather than Idaho Falls). That time, we had rental boots and skis (another airline problem, but at least they paid for the rentals), and I was so busy trying to adjust my boots so they wouldn't hurt that I didn't get a good feel for the place.

In five and a half days of skiing this trip, we had about thirty minutes of sunshine total, which was fine by me, since all those clouds brought at least some new snow every day.

I'm by no means an expert, so I stayed off the Lone Peak Tram and such, but of course there was plenty I could ski. I especially liked a lot of runs at Moonlight Basin; many of the blue cruisers had nice contours and several of the blacks were quite nice, too. It helped that there were even fewer people over there than on the Big Sky side.

Two things I learned: Madison Lodge at Moonlight Basin makes the perfect oatmeal cookie (with cranberries) and the shuttle company should not necessarily be trusted when it comes to setting one's pickup time from the hotel. (We missed our flight and had to spent the night in Denver.)

I've got some pictures of the trip over at Flickr.

Yum!

Sorry about your shuttle incident. Bad luck with air travel recently, eh? Thanks for warning us though. Checked out the pics, looks like it was beautiful!

As much as I fly, I'm surprised I don't have things go wrong more often. And I sure couldn't ski as much if I had to drive out west.
