Best Early Season Skiing in CO

My husband and I are going to CO to start off our ski season early. Between Breckenridge, Keystone, and Arapahoe Basin, which would be the best one to hit for early season skiing? I know the entire mountain won’t be open but we’re just wanting a fun time to get our ski legs back.

Sounds like it may be more of personal preference this early season instead of snow coverage.

The 11/8 report from OpenSnow says:
"Thanks to the multiple feet of snow that fell in Colorado during the first few days of November, Keystone and Breckenridge opened two days early, and Eldora opened one week early. Also, Arapahoe Basin, Loveland, and Wolf Creek are open for the season."

When do you plan to come?

Check each area to see what runs each areas are opening. Looks like more will open this weekend. Keystone is 500 ft lower than Breck. The bottom runs are not open yet so you have to download on the Gondola. Breck is talking about opening Peak 8? Maybe T-Bar? Just announced on radio that A-Basin is opening the top runs on Sat. which means there will be more to ski.

It also depends on what you like to ski. I consider A-Basin blues more challenging than Breck blues. If Breck opens more terrain it will be better. Until Keystone opens the bottom I would avoid it.

For up to date information stream the local radio station Krystal 93. The best time is in the morning 8-12 am mst time.

If Mammoth continues to be dry, we might head to CO as well.

We will certainly wait until more terrain opens up.

Thanks snow!

Just looked at Keystone terrain and lift status page. There are 2 green runs open on the frontside. Looks like North Peak opened today but will have to take the OutPost Gondola to get to it. Open runs are Prospector from Gondola. Ski patrol dropped the rope on Last Alamo this morning. Not sure if they're doing controlled skiing or Last Alamo is permanently open. Still will need to download to the bottom

Watch the weather if you plan to do A-Basin on Sunday. Current snow predictions of 3-5" during the day. The upper part of the mountain may not be fun as it is above tree line and visibility can be poor.

Skied ABasin yesterday and it is skiing really well. Three runs opened and they are opening the upper mountain today to add top to bottom skiing. Keystone opened North Peak yesterday with Prospector and had soft openings on Ambush, Powdercap and Bullet. These soft openings are to get the snow packed down for when the next storm rolls in which looks like Sunday. I heard from a few that skied/rode these runs that they skied pretty good but lots of hidden gems under the snow. They said if you were going to ski them use skis or boards you don't care about!:dance::dance:.

Have fun where ever you ski!
