Best Day?

So, to counteract the bad mojo of the injuries thread...

What has been your best day of skiing ever [so far]??

Mine was a snowcat day trip in Steamboat with Steamboat Powdercats in March '03. My first real "powder."
:snow:

Faceplant within moments of getting into my (rented) fat skis but once I got the hang of "bouncing" my turns... AWESOME. The scenery was breathtaking, the other skiers were fun, the instructors/guides were great and lunch at the Powdercats hut/cabin... comfort food never tasted so good! It was way more money than we should have spent at the time, and I don't regret ONE PENNY. My DH wants to plan a heli trip to celebrate his 40th bday in '09....

Oh, I SO want to do a snowcat trip!!! Heli??? WOW! AWESOME. Thinking of a certain movie-maker's quote (not a popular person on this site of late) about taking that heli trip lest you be one year older...2009, that's NEXT YEAR!

My best day was an early April day at Copper, many long years ago. We had just driven west and were supposed to be taking it easy that first day up at altitude. Bluebird day, no jacket-warm, and perfect corn. Guess I had never skied perfect corn before. Well, there was no stopping, and it was the best day EVER. Of course, I wound up with altitude sickness and paid for it in spades later.......in retrospect, it was worth it.

Okay, time to think about something positive...

Oh how I WISH I could take a cat or heli trip! How awesome would THAT be?!?!

Okay, this is an odd one, but it came to mind. The first year I was skiing, very end of the year. Big May powder storm. At Snowbird at the top of the Little Cloud lift. There's a black groomed run, then a cat track that skirts the top of a big bowl to another blue groomed run. About a foot of new snow. Not the lightest of powder, but it was May, and people were whooping it up.

Anyway, I stood at the top of that black bowl, fairly untracked, and decided I was going to ski it without falling. It took me something like six tries, but I finally did it. I was SO proud of myself! :becky:

And I grinned like a mad man the rest of the day, even though I went home with legs that would barely move!:D

Ah, Little Cloud Bowl, know it well, plus the access trail above it and how you have to go ALL the way around the bowl on that cat track to get to the only moderate terrain. Done it! Also the dead center. And this would probably be my son's choice of all-time favorite days, same bowl, as doing this bowl (at LINE DROP) was the first time he ever did 18" untracked. He threw up a rooster 10' high. Lots of whooping on that chairlift when patrol showed up to drop the line, believe me! :yahoo: And it was April Fools' Day, too! Ever been there for the crazy costume party on 4/1? It's a blast.

Easy.

Touring to Amphitheater Lake in Grand Teton National Park. 3000 ft of vertical, hanging out at the base of the Grand, insane views of Jackson and the Gros Ventres, total solitude, and 3000 ft of powder back to the car.

Man, I think I need to dig out some pictures.

I have posted this before..

February 5, 2003, Vail... D & I skiing on an epic powder day, we wandered off into the back bowls from Wildwood, and stumbled into thigh deep powder on Windows.. we just hooted in disbelief all the way down, we met up with family and friends in the afternoon, had a few celebratory beers at Garfinkels, went home got changed, and got married.
