Best color lens for flat light?

SnowGlider

Ski Diva Extraordinaire
I never wore goggles until this year. I asked a shop for goggles that would work well in flat light and was sold a pair with amber lenses.

I find these useless in flat light---I can see better without them.

I asked quite a few people and most told me that rose is the best color for flat light.

What do you think???

P.S. How terrible is it that I don't wear goggles in bright light? They bother me because I wear glasses, plus my helmet comes down quite low to my eyebrows.

I agree -- I've found rose and purples to be best in flat light. Everything seems to "pop" with those color lenses. I even drive with purple lenses when there is flat light.

Goggles are recommended in bright light to protect from snowblindness. I think if your glasses have a tinting mechanism, you'll be generally fine, but keep in mind, light gets in through the sides too.

yup, i agree!

mine are amber too, and they're rubbish in flat light!

i've heard that rose is better . . .
rose coloured glasses? why not! :p

i need glasses to see as well (but i opt for contacts when skiing so my glasses don't fog).

as for goggles usefullness, they're a good idea.
goggles reduce eye damage (the last thing you want is to have retena or cornea issues later on . . .) not to mention if you ski trees, they protect your face :D .

if you're not into getting contacts, try on as may goggles as you can (with your glasses AND helmet on) and look for really good ventelation (prevents glasses/goggles from fogging).

eventually you will find the perfect fit and tint!

I have found that yellow lenses also work very well in flat light and make things 'pop'.

I have two pairs that are good. Oakley's - Pink Iridium is great for really flat days. And Persimmon for general.

I love my Smith Anthems with the Sensor Mirror (rose-base tint) for flat light days (which is 90% of the time up here). They had them on SAC a couple weeks ago for $30 (I paid $100!)...

I have Smith Anthems as well. They have a rose/pinkish lens which I've been pleased with in all the light conditions I've skied with them. I was crying when I saw them on SAC a few weeks ago. I paid $59 which I thought was a good deal!
