Beige wedge under the boot liner??

In my boot it is called the antomical thermal wedge. It is under the boot liner. I just realized that mine is not attached and free flowing in my boots. There's about at least 1/2 inch between it and one end of the boot. Why isn't it attached and why isn't it the same length as the boot shell?

That wedge should be shoved all the way back to the back of the boot and glued or taped to the boot board in the bottom of the boot so it doesn't "free float". Its purpose is to snug up your boot fit, make your boots feel longer if needed, get your calf up out of the upper cuff, and adjust your balance by shifting your center of mass up and forward a bit. For some peeps, this is all a good thing....for others, not so much.

I don't think I'd do anything permanent, like glue them down until I'm sure it'll be comfortable. There may be a good reason they're not glued down by the manufacturer(s).

I had custom orthotics put in new boots in Telluride in 2006. The boots never gave me a problem. Last month I had new custom orthotics made because my feet have changed. The bootfitter mentioned the wedge hadn't been glued down. He glued it down.

The boots are not as comfortable as they were. Of course it could be the orthotics themselves, but it could be the wedge glued down too.

If you have a bootfitter nearby I'd seek their recommendation first.

I wouldn't consider doing anything unless the boots are giving you trouble.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

you can use double-sided duct tape or carpet tape (the duct tape works better) to hold it in place but be removable if/when needed (found in many.most hardware stores)

They are a leased boot so they are old, but in good shape. I saw the bootfitter with them and he said the fit was almost perfect. The brand is Nordica Exopower 7.0. They do not hurt at all but my toes go numb after a few runs. They are a size 24(shoes size 8) 280 mn. I just called Nordica....OK my boot is ancient. According to the rep they were made in 2000.
I am still planning on buying new boots in February. Just trying to make these work in the meanwhile.
