Beige pants - dumb idea?

Okay, so it took me awhile to actually get to business and find ski pants that fit (at least they fit this year, anyway). Hooray. Done. Now I have found the same pants online, in a different color. Given that I love the current pants (black) - and also that I frequently find myself, in hindight saying "WHY didn't I buy ANOTHER pair??" - I'm considering the same pants in beige-light tan.

I've never had a lighter color ski pant before. Always dark. So are they quicker to look awful/dirty? Just seems like it would be a nice change of pace from the typical New England black (which we wear for warmth as much as anything).

Not cheap but definitely a good price for what they are, and the fit is great, so I'm about ready to pull the trigger. So? Would you get another dark pair or pop for the lighter color?

Depends:

I pretty much always wear the same coat and jacket, because it's easier for people to recognize me that way. Like Saturdays if I go up and drop my daughter off with her group, sometimes a friend will see me and we can hook up. My friend on the other hand changes outfits all the time and has so many that I can't even keep track of them all. It's very difficult to find her if she wants to hook up on the hill. So if you want predictability maybe stay with the dark, but if you want to have a little fun and don't need to worry about being found, then by all means get the beige and mix it up a little.

I have 2 pairs of beige pants & a nice earthy brown Helly Hansen pair on their way to me in the mail! It's the only color I could find that would work with my burnt orange jacket.

The pairs I currently have are both made by Burton. I wash them frequently because...yeah...they get dirty. Usually the only part that gets dirty is the spot on my leg that touches my car while getting my ski stuff out!

But - the last time I washed them I used the waterproof wash-in stuff...and the dirt now just brushes off much easier & they're staying much cleaner. I like the beige because they almost don't look like ski pants at all...almost like a pair of khakis.

I think I'm gonna do it. Okay, I'll deal with the dirty part later. OTOH, what they put on the roads here in Maine (salt/sand) shows up MUCH faster on dark pants! Agreed, with right treatment, stuff should brush off. Bigger concern was stuff like chairlift grease drips, but I have Canadian friends now (thanks to this site!) who can probably bring me some of that drain cleaner stuff - oops, no wait, it was de-greaser. Whatever it is, we can't get it here. Thanks, all, for input. Tan it is.

Beige is fine. The new fabrics are great at releasing any soil and not letting soil set in. My fav pans are beige and I love them.

All done, just ordered. Buckmans.com if anyone is interested - they have reasonably good sales, based out of PA (brick and mortar stores there), fast delivery to my locale. Free ship if over $50, no tax, works for me. Can't wait, it will be a whole new "me" in lighter (meaning non-black) pants (so maybe this is the pick-me-up my season needed??).

Helly Hansen Vega. Great fit for me, thought I'd jump on same sale price as I got here, in another color (which the shop here didn't have, I got the last one in that size, period).

Hey!! Those are the Helly pants I'm waiting for in the mail. Did you get them in "Walnut?" - They kind of look like a more brownish color. I was able to grab them for $40...so I figured, what the heck!! They should be here tomorrow.

Dude, you got the deal! Saw those, they were in the clearance section, way to go. I got the regular sale price, the lighter ones, forgot color name - only that darker color was on clearance - so I paid double, but hey, for pants that fit? I can handle 80. It's the $300+ Cloudveil and likes of those that are totally out of my budget. Heck, my skis were less than that. Ditto boots.

After reading about tan ski pants it hit me that I brought a pair of gray ski pants last year and forgot all about them.

I looked in my closet and there they were tags still on them hiding way in the back. I like black but the gray were a good deal and matched the ski jacket I was buying at the time.

I guess I kept waring my black ski pants and forgot about the gray. I have a new ski jacket this year and the gray ski pants just happen to match.

Thanks for reminding me!

Cool! You know what's odd - the Helly website doesn't even show them as offering either beige or brown. I checked because I was curious which color you got.

I got mine for cheap because Aspen/Snowmass uniformed our crew in Helly Hansen this year (from RLX stuff). So we have a "pro-deal" site that we can access with 60% off regular prices. Problem is...everything is either not available or is in hot pink/extra small. So when I was searching & found the pants for $40...in a normal color - I snagged them.

Who cares if they get dirty anyway? Aren't we skiing? :D

My first pair of backcountry shell pants were light khaki - that was a mistake. With all the bushwacking and climbing, etc they were SO dirty within the first month. But, I came to the conclusion that it didn't matter.

Well, I frankly would rather not look like a lift mechanic. And I don't quite have the freedom to wash just anytime, as I have a private well and septic, have to ration water and be mega-careful about what chemicals go into the system (such as wash-in waterproofing). So ski wear wash is a trip to the laundromat for me. So, yeah, I care. It's a PITA to haul into town to do laundry.

:bump: Great. Now that I'm on the DL, these pants have arrived.
And - - they are really, really light. I would say this is more of an off-white than anything beige. Haven't even taken them out of the box and plastic to try on yet (figuring what's the point). But first, a bit of diva input requested: I know how much everyone has talked about no white (or anything similar), from skis to outfits. But what about these light(er) pants? If worn with bright and darker jackets, is this still considered not visible enough? Because if the fit isn't perfect (same mfr and size as other pants recently bought), back they go. Help?

I think you will be fine. The lighter pants look good with brighter tops and yes, you will be visible. Even though the color is light, my DH had a pair of light grey pants for years that actually stayed cleaner than my black ones. The lighter colors hide car dust etc. better. Lighter can actually be more visible in the trees too. Black with a dark jacket can sometimes become invisible in these instances. Keep em' I'll bet they are cute. Hows the knees?

Improving, thanks. It's the doggone left outside calf muscle that's the bigger of the boo-boos. I kind of figured this out skiing down to the base - about 2k of vertical gave me plenty of turns to assess. Will have to get the rest of the story from ortho on Monday.
Will try on the pants when I feel like moving legs around. I've seen many in light pants. I've always been weight/bulge self-conscious, but I'm on the thin side right now. Jacket is dark dark red, other is periwinkle blue. Should be okay. Thanks for input, g!
