Banff 2022

Day one skiing with @ilovepugs and Dr. Pugs. Spent the day at Sunshine, exploring the various lifts so we could do a more thorough job tomorrow. Had a lovely dinner in Banff, and then saw this on the way back to Canmore:

Yes, it's a BEAR! So exciting!

It was just down the road from this picture, which I did NOT take from the car.

Such a beautiful area. Looks amazing! Apart from the bear, that would freak me out!

Ooh, I skied an actual black diamond trail today and it honestly felt like no big deal. Could get an edge in and make some nice turns. Of course then we went down a blue trail that hadn’t seen any sun yet and it was… sketchy. Just goes to show, trail ratings are mostly subjective and totally dependent on conditions!

I chose a short mogul run and didn’t die. Did it three times. Had to wait for the afternoon so they softened a bit but it went well.

The sun was in and out, after lunch it started to snow for at least an hour, visibility worsened, and stuff started firming up again so we called it a good day and came back to Canmore. Now it’s dinner and relaxation time.

Sunshine had 7.5” of snow overnight so there was a change of plans and we went there instead of Lake Louise, where they only had 3-4”. Truth be told, that’s enough for me, but off to Sunshine we went!

I'm sure the first couple of runs didn’t inspire anyone's confidence in me, least of all my own, but it got better. I just don’t get enough practice in that much snow and tense right up until I can get out of my head. It took about three runs down below, then we went up to the Divide. I skied what had formerly been groomed, so it was messy piles, not hard bumps hiding under soft snow, and the first run down that gave me the confidence I needed. Everything was good after that.

My legs are tired!
