auditions tomorrow for my quiver

tomorrow is the demo day i've been waiting for. and i'm ready to start a quiver.

my instructor described me this week (unsolicited and out of the blue) as an early level seven skier (but bound to improve given how much i ski). i'm 5'7", 143 pounds, skiing a nordica victory in 154.

I know i want something with quick snappy turns and something that will be much faster (so, two skis). i called the shop and they know that next year's lines of k2s, solomons, and attivas will be there. he also thinks the nordica rep will be bringing up his line. but i want to be ... sufficiently educated when they come. i've been reading the various reviews you all so eloquently write, and i know these guys coming up are not as committed to women's skis as you are. on the phone, the guy bringing up the demos at first said he wasn't sure he was bringing up fuego, that tierra and niebla would do -- that those were top end skis.

which of you had that great experience where the rep ending up talking to someone in the lodge about the woman seemed to know more than he did?

so, what should i ski tomorrow and what should i look out for if i'm looking for one ski to tr to keep up w/ my racing buddy and one w/ short snappy turns and bounce.

oh (on an entirely different note but w/ a nod of gratitude), as a result of our discussions on our board, i knew what to ask for to get my boots to fit.

I sure Ski Diva and I too would like to know what you think of the Salomons - Opal and Amethyst. Opal is the women's X-wing and Amethyst replaces the Rush - their carver. You have asked the wrong people for a demo list - you will have too many!!

I am so gear clueless, I really don't keep up on that stuff. One reason I rely on demos...my eyes burn when I read stats and stuff.

So...I would go to the person there, tell them what you want your ski to do, and see what they come up with. You're limited to what they have on hand anyway. My demo experience has always given me a clear idea right away if a ski is right for me.

I'm I 'big boned' gal, and never buy women's skis. Yet I'm always pushed that way first by the demo guys. I'm also probably alot heavier and stockier than most women, so it's not even a consideration for me. So give a uni-sex ski a whirl and see what you think, you may be surprised - I don't find them to be a problem to ski at all, but I am a strong/aggressive skier.
