As far as I can tell, Vail's not extending. . .

As far as I can tell, Vail's not extending the season, which is no great surprise, as it's been a money loser/headache when they have extended.

However, I AM kind of shocked at the fact, given all the terrific snow, that they're still scheduled to close a bunch of lifts starting Monday through the last week of operation. Including Orient Express, surface lift back to Two Elk, surface lift Siberia/Mongolia, Chair 14, Game Creek, and a lift or two in Blue Sky. (And some other, smaller stuff like various magic carpets and stuff on the far west frontside.)

Seems crazy to me. Even if you're not extending, leave better access available for the last week of the season, crazy people! Snow's great! (Even if I can't get up there to sample. )

Rumor has it the Bowl will be ski-able til June...:eyebrows:

I might just. . . good to know on the pass thing, too. Although in theory I guess we can ski free at Aspen b/c of DH's job. Although getting your hands on the forms for the reciprocity discounts. . . ?? :noidea:

what does DH do again? If he works for any mountain, then certainly it would be free! We are actually extending the Highlands discounts to any mountain employees country-wide, I believe. I mean...it's only for 2 weekends, but still that's pretty sweet.

Wow, I so wish I live closer and I'd take advantage of that discount!

He works for an Intrawest subsidiary/spinoff.

One big reason the resorts can't extend is lack of employees. (Besides their lease ending withthe Forest Service for the season)

A gal from Argentina who was working in Keystone told me that the new visa regulations only allow them to stay in the country x 3 months, instead of the 6 months they used to be able to stay.

Not extending doesn't surprise me at all-- the cost of Ops is so high, and yeah, all the seasonal employees go home. (Visas, as I understand it, have been a HUGE issue all over the mountains the last few years.)

But I am really surprised that they're basically shutting down all access to China Bowl/Siberia/Mongolia after the weekend, when there's another week to go. Think the terrain will be open and hikeable, even if the lifts aren't?

really!! And if you Divas want to head to the best party of the year...this Sunday is Highland's "closing day" party.

Gaper 1 piece snowsuits, rear entry boots...lots of beer. A ski skimming pool with snowmobiles that pull you to it. You name it....it is going to be AMAZING. And the weather is supposed to be just perfect bluebird skies.

I will post pics of me, my friends and our fabulous gaper gear!!
