Article on A-basin in NYT

Thanks for posting the article. It's one of the resorts we bought a 4pass to this year and we enjoyed our first ski day there on Christmas Eve. I'm anxious for the expansion as it seems to have perfect runs for our whole family, I like the blue cruisers and hubby and kids like the blacks! We also love a resort where you don't have to pay a fortune to park close!

Love the place. Haven't been there in years, though - nice to see there's a bit of expansion happening. Always the last to close in the spring, wild party scene.

haha, well the resort is obviously 'scary'. if by scary maybe they mean doesn't have a full-service spa at the base so you can get your waxing done in between runs?

i'm not as excited about the new restaurant, i kinda liked the oldschool attitude of A-basin. Hope they don't turn into another typical Summit County resort.... it's nice to go somewhere that brown-bagging is the norm...

I LOVE A-Basin. We haven't been able to afford passes for a few seasons now, so that's where we ski most of the time. It's always interesting to read outside opinions on places you frequent. We've only been there once so far, and we hiked over to see the new terrain, and it looks so fun! We did see the new restaurant-doesn't look too Summit County...and will hopefully stay that way! After being at a big resort (Steamboat) over the holidays, I'm looking forward to a nice quiet day of skiing at A-Basin, brown bags and all! (Unfortunately, looks like the new area isn't quite ready yet...)

The drive is 'frightening'? They have to be kidding!! :ROTF:
Actually, to some of us it is. I'm very nervous when driving at heights where there is no guardrail so unless there is absolutely no snow on the roads I go around and even when there is no snow I'm literally seeing my life flash before my eyes the entire way over the pass. Ridiculous, maybe but it's uncontrollable. I can ride a chairlift and have my legs dangle many feet in the air with no problem but driving Loveland and Berthoud passes is terrifying to me. :fear: :fear: :fear:
