Okay, so what do you all like to do after a day of skiing?

On an ordinary ski day (when I'm home in VT), I usually come in, take a shower, and put in a few hours of work at my home office. Not very exciting, but that's fine with me.

But if I'm away on a ski vacation and if there's a hot tub available, I'm there! I LOVE a hot tub after a day of skiing. Then a nice dinner, maybe a couple drinks, and that's it.

I've never been one for a big night out. If there's a choice between partying til all hours and the first chair, I'll take the first chair every time.

Bottom line -- I'm in it for the skiing. What about you?

On day trips, apres ski is changing clothes in the car and injesting large quantities of Advil. No wine because of the driving. It's very very very uncivilized.

On the way home, the highway passes a FACTORY OUTLET CENTER. At this point my husband will 1) pray that I am asleep and 2) give it a lot of gas. If I am driving, we make a short detour to look at kitchen gadgets and china.

apres

When we ski our local mountain (hour drive) we come home (a weekend place) and hit the hot tub on the deck. Usually with beers. IF feeling tired, we often will make dinner first and go in the tub later, when the moon and stars are out , right before bed. I always have a great nights sleep those nights.
The hot tub died this year. We have to see what the $ picture is before we think of buying a new one. It's been a real luxury having that tub.

This is very close to what we do. After our last run of the day, we usually will have a beer or two either in the lodge or in the nearby town. Then it's back to wherever we're staying for some hot tub therapy. Many times we will have a nice dinner out, then the obligatory fudge fix, and back to the hotel or condo for sleep. We're much more focused on first chair than the partying aspect. Definitely in it for the skiing. It comes all too infrequently for us. Partying can be done at home.

While skiing at home apres ski usual consists of a beer with friends, or just going home for a warm shower.

On the other hand if it's a ski vacation, then it's usually more of a party. Of course that depends on what ski area we're at. But like SkiDiva first chair is a must, especially if it's fresh. In other conditions rain, heavy fog, super cold, then moving in the morning is a little more slow.

Well we have a condo on the mountain. So it's home first to change, then off to the Microbrewery for a couple. Now I'm not a beer drinker, so that is for Hubby. After that its home to supper or maybe out, but not often. Then if its Saturday night its the Canadian tradition of Hockey Night in Canada. First game ends at 10:30 and the final buzzer usually wakes me up. Stoke up the wood stove, and off to bed. First chair is 7:15 am for season pass holders!! If we have company then the scheme is out the window as they'll want to party.

For me it's maybe a stop on the way home with people, or not, and then dinner. I tend to last skiing until 4:00, but sometimes others quit earlier so I lose them. It's nice when there's been a race during the day (lots of our club members race); over dinner in the club we all celebrate the wipe-outs and did-not-finishes, the victories and who-beat-whose-time with much fan-fare and humor. Oh, and we have a GREAT cook for Saturday nights during ski season. Then I'm off to bed early with a book and a nice snuggly down comforter, so I can get up around 6:00 the next morning. You'd think I'd make first chair, but I'm usually still struggling with resistant boots in the lodge when they fire up the lifts. I envy you who actually get out there on time. Is this related to always turning in library books late?

In North Conway NH where my ski club is, there are about 20 clubs, and many of the clubs are full of singles. Apres ski is a big deal. Every Saturday afternoon and night during ski season there are big theme parties hosted by different clubs, and many of the single skiers attend both parties. I could easily go, but I avoid them.

I've never been big on the apres ski stuff. But if I'm on a ski vacation, I do like to hit the hot tub, have a drink or two, and go out for dinner. If I'm just on a day trip, going out to dinner afterwards is nice. I'm usually too tired to cook!

We are old fuddy duddies. we ski mostly midweek and leave when the school kids show up around 2:30. Then since we are only a half hour from home, that's where we head for a hot meal and the hit the showers.

When we are on vacation, we go with the "kids" until they wear us out.

Since we're not anywhere close to skiing (live in Florida) ALL our skiing is on vacation. A MUST in a rental condo is the Hot tub. Won't rent a place without one. Apres ski is usually a couple drinks at a pub slopeside and wait for the family to gather up, back to the condo, and then dinner and a good soak in the hot tub with a glass (or 2) of wine.

Then a little TV or a game of Taboo with the family and off to bed to hit that first chair in the morning.

If we've planned the trip with other families or friends then you have to add alot more partying into the mix!

It's very different depending on the day. I do always like a beer, even if I've just gone up for the morning:redface: But depending on who we're with, it can be anything from hot tub and light dinner, to TV and pizza and Twister or Yahtzee with the kids, to 4-star restaurant, to a pub crawl in Whistler where, after first donning weird sunglasses and wigs, we threw down the house specialty shot at three or four different bars, got reprimanded at dinner for singing too much, and ... and... I forgot the rest ....

Our home mountain is about 90 minutes away, so we usually drive straight home, unload and take care of the gear, then get cleaned up before starting our evening---cooking dinner together, enjoying a glass of wine and relaxing.
On trips, we pretty much do the same thing but the evening meal is more fun to cook, the wine more effective, and watching a movie at the condo is even still more relaxing. Not being in our own home looking at the "same ol' same ol' " after a great day out on the slopes, is simply the best respite of all! My husband enjoys the hot-tub if available, but I'd rather prep food and sip wine!

Shower, dinner, dvd. Sometimes we hot tub at resorts, sometimes not, always at home. Public hot tubs can gross me out when we have such a nice one at home but it just depends.

Agreed, we have a spanking clean hot tub outside under the stars with a silver filter so I'm spoiled and am very picky about what public tubs I will frequent.

My fav apres ski activity at home is dinner, hot tub, and time with my husband. My fav apres ski activity at a resort is to have a drink in the late afternoon with friends in a super nice bar (like the one at the Cliff Lodge at Snowbird) on mountain, and then a nice dinner and go to sleep early. Especially at altitude, I get quite the buzz from one drink!

For the last 8 years, skiing has been vacation skiing only, and what's more, FAMILY vacation skiing! Which I think puts a whole other spin on the day...

While you are all out looking for your first chair, I am feeding kids, determining which layers they should wear, packing diapers (thank god those years are past) for daycare, or making sure they have their gloves and so on. Then it's dropping off at ski school/daycare which usually is in the 9:30 range... THEN we can make tracks for the chairlift!

Process reverses starting at about 3:00 as we head to pick up tired little kiddies, pack their gear, treat them to a snack in the big lodge or whatever... We cook dinner in the condo since eating out is too expensive after ski school (!) and stick them all in bed around 8:30!

That doesn't exactly resemble much of what you ladies are doing...

That being said, vacation for us means being there at all; having someone else assume responsibility for our kids for a chunk of the day, spending any time whatsoever doing something we both love, talking to each other on the chair lift and remembering we did have an entire relationship based on just the two of us before the other three came along...

We also have learned to remind ourselves that vacation is just about recharging ourselves and our relationship, even at the expense of some extra hours on the slopes. Eating at a restaurant for lunch instead of the cafeteria at least once, taking an "afternoon siesta" at least once - and for me, a massage while DH indulges in the double diamonds and moguls that are beyond my skill level are de riguer!

Someday I hope to be making tracks for the first chair, with the entire family in tow!:drool: But that day ain't here yet!:jealous:

I have taken kids to Smuggler's Notch a few times for ski vacations and yes, those family vacations are very different than when I ski with friends or my husband sans kids. Even though my kids are older, there is a lot of waiting to drop them at a lesson, planning an packing for meals, getting gear together, planning my ski day around their needs, etc. And we ski and ride together on weekends as well and those days I'm often skiing around the mountain looking for them. So there are plenty days when I'm a Mom on skis, not a skier who happens to be a Mom.

Apres Ski? Qu'est-ce que?

Because most of my skiing is done 15 miles from ground zero/home, I pack my locker and head home or the store then home. I'm sooo boring.

Now, when in Jackson Hole, far away from ground zero, then a meet-up in the lobby of the Four Seasons (;-) is way fun. Or a shower/change and head in to the Rusty Parrot/Wild Sage for some pampering (and of course to say hello to DS, Chef Love).
