Anyone use Girl's size jackets?

I'm 5'2" basic hourglass shape, and a lot of stuff is too long for me, or it's too tight around the hips then sits high at the shoulder. I got psyched last night while trying on jackets because I tried on some girl's size 16/18 jackets and (I think) they fit really well and are like $100 less in price. I want to try them on with my current bib pants to make sure they fit over the pants ok. Anyone ever buy girl's size stuff? How did it fit? Thanks.

I haven't tried this now that manufacturers have been making XS and/or petite sizes. I'm a little curious - is the problem you're having that the jackets run long and are going past/down to the hips, and that's why it's tight there? Or are you talking about parkas? I figure, if it fits and is cheaper, who cares if it's a girls size.

I used to buy kid-sized jeans before they actually mass marketed ankle-length and petite jeans; they were tight in the hips, of course, but at least I didn't have to roll up the cuffs and could look like a normal member of society. And they were cheaper.

hard shells and jackets are usually too long and a bit tight around the hips. I did try on a nice Salomon down-type jacket that was a bit shorter and shaped well, but the friggin zipper was a pain.

I have to look around some more.

I haven't gotten girls' sized jackets, but I get kid sized tops and hoodies. I like the girls' section for midlayers for skiing. For lounge around clothes I get a lot of tshirts from the little boys section: spiderman, wolverine, etc.

I'm short, but I'm not skinny. I have the kind of body type that whether something is sized for kids, juniors or misses, nothing really fits well without stretch just cuz the proportion isn't accounted for. Hard shell stuff is always tricky.

I fit into a girls 16/18 too - and almost bought a girls' jacket last year. The reason I didn't was because the jacket didn't have the kind of features (like pit zips and lots of pockets) that I've come to like in women's jackets. Marker makes petite jackets and I've found that a 4 petite fits me very well - and has all the features I want

I saw a few of the petite Marker jackets at TJ Maxx with all that ski stuff. They were great prices, but heavier than what I was looking for. I'm hot blooded and picky about jacket weight though, they looked great.

I have had decent luck with some of the kids gear ie fleece, vests etc. I haven't ventured into the outwear category too far because it has only been of recent that they have really stepped it up in terms of quality etc. I did have a pair of kids bibs awhile back and did not enjoy them, very insulated yet not very waterproof. I am about 5'0 only and understand the too long issue, I have trouble in the arms also. I think I have mentioned it before also, but look at "alpine","technical", "mountaineering" shells as well. They tend to be cut shorter and generally fit me better at least.
The scary thing about the womens XS sizes is they fit my 10 y.o. daughter whom wears a size 8 in kids.?! They are cut more narrow than a typical childs medium, which is still a little big on her as such.

I've had good luck with the Salomon XS's and Orage XXS. I'm 5'1 and have short arms so sleeve lengths are usually my issue.

Spyder makes a size 2 if you can find them. Most other brands are too large for me.

If you don't mind snowboarding gear there's a brand called 686 that makes smaller jackets. I have a shell that fits well and has lots of neat features.

Don't overlook the boys' section! I've not gotten any outerwear from the boys' department, but sometimes other clothing items in L or XL. Works pretty well for those of us with narrow hips. The price point disparity is sometimes unnerving

I've also been able to fit boys shirts.

Not so much because of problems with regular women's sizes, but because the baseball or football team shirts I wanted were too large in men's sizes and non-existent in women's sizes unless you wanted cutesy pink. But that's another issue entirely...

Yep, not gonna fully hijack this thread to talk about it, but god I hate not being able to get team stuff in women's non pink. Personally, I hate pink, but even though I know women who like pink I think it still sucks for them when there isn't a women's fit option using the actual team colors. I'd mind a lot more if the boys' stuff didn't fit though, and being cheaper doesn't hurt

I've found that 5th and ocean makes some nice Sox women's swag that are actually in the team colors (good guys wear black!). It's downright lucky for your favorite team to wear your favorite color :D

Is that the manufacturer that's finally making cute women's stuff in true colors? Saw a tv ad. BTW, num, I've seen a couple of your references to your fave team, south-side Hit Men, kinda makes me sigh---that was my late mom's team.........but Dad (also long gone) was a Cubs man, so as a kid I spent lots of time at 1060 W Addison (key memories song here). Last big outing of my son with his grandpa was to the new home of White Sox...

Sorry for the semi-hijack here.
Seriously, I always check the boys' section any time I'm at TJ, can find some nice bargains.

funny, I was thinking about this thread this morning before getting in to work. Thanks for all the additional info. I used to wear boys sneakers all the time. I also found a great little shop near where I work called Ancona, they design their own sports wear and have really nice women's fitting base layers and pants and vests/tops.

(not trying to sell for them, just sharing info that I recently discovered.)
