Question: Anyone ski the new Black Crows Vertis Birdie?

The Navigator is the men's ski and doesn't come short enough for me. I could try the Astral 84, but haven't heard much about them. I'll take a look....
Did you get a chance to try the Vertis Birdie?

As a matter of fact, I did today! Decided to drive down to Heavenly to check them out.

I liked them. They handled the groomers well, and were able to cut through the crud that accumulated towards the end of the day. Definitely a lot of fun. It felt like a front-side focused all-mountain ski (which is, I think, how they describe it). But...the more I demo, I'm not sure that's what I want. It felt a little too close to my Santa Anas, despite having a 15mm narrower waist. I think I want something that carves just a little better. It liked the softer snow a little better than the ice spots. This ski carved ok, but still slipped on some of the turns more than I would have liked. In comparison, I demoed the Head Super Joy, and felt much more stable at speed on the mixed crusty terrain, holding the turns a bit better.

Actually trying the Head Super Joy - way more of a carver - tomorrow. Picked them up from Start Haus this evening. I have a few other skis on my list that I want to demo as well, and I plan to hook up with @SnowHot in the next several weeks (or next month) to test a ski or two in their quiver.

Ooh let us know how you like the Super Joy.. did you mean you tried the Total Joy yesterday or just the Black Crows?
BA from Open Snow reports maybe end of next week a good storm!

Would definitely give the new Back Pearls 88 a demo if you can. I demoed them in very firm conditions and loved them. So easy to ski, but also held a great edge and felt very stable.

I tried the Total Joys and Volkl Yumis at Squaw a couple weeks ago. Yesterday, I was on the Vertis Bridies all day. The Super Joys were pretty fun. They carved nicely and cut through the mogul-y crud that built up at the end of the day - pretty well for more of a carving ski.

I already have Santa Ana 100s - so have an all-mountain ski. Looking more for something in the 75-85 waist range for the lack-of-snow days we're having in Tahoe. Thinking about a broader quiver - a 75-85 waist for early/late season and spring, my Santa Ana 100s for all-mountain, and my Star 7 powder ski (115 waist) - so that I have all the conditions/terrain covered.
