Anyone remember their first ski date?

I started as an adult, and I mark the date just like a b-day (actually, this date is WAY more important :becky: ) or wedding anniversary: today is the 33rd anniversary of the first time I ever got on skis!

Diva moms, write your kids' first day down somewhere, too. Those who were lucky enough to start as little kids won't otherwise remember. (DS, you were 12/19/84)

Really was a day that changed my life, in every imaginable way, given that I married my ski instructor 7 months later. Absurdly true story.

I thought you meant your first date with a guy while skiing!!! LOL

I remember when a guy kissed me on the slopes as teenagers at Brodie Mt. haha

and I met a nice guy also from NY state while out at Vail once! Saw him a bunch of times back east.

Yeah, thought that could be read as such - on the other hand, first ski dates would make some fun recollections  as well! It's all good.

Um, yep, I don't remember my first day on skis in the slightest. I was on my moms back in a pack during my first winter (so around 8 months or so) and was probably on skis the next season at some point. My father was hard core.

wow!

My first day was at age 5. My parents had friends who skied and thought that this might be an activity we could all do. So off to Barrie, Ontario and Snow Valley. I got rentals and a quick explanation from "uncle Bob". Got off the rope tow, pull myself around a tree at the top and sat down on the back of the skis and point the skis downhill. The rest is history!!

That is so cool. A friend showed me a picture of her niece, all of 18 months or so, in ski gear in the back yard. Love it!

I don't remember the date of when I first stepped into skis, but I do remember that it was the entire family's first time at a ski area, and we had no idea how things worked. We stuck the lift ticket onto our jackets, rather than using the wicket!

But then - the truth came out just last month! I was talking to my mom about a local hill here, and she was like, "Yeah, that's actually where your dad and I went once when we still lived down there before you were born." I was like, "What??? You went skiing before??! And you still let me and my brother look like dorky 4 and 7 year old kids with lift tickets stuck onto us??"

Yeah, I don't ever remember not knowing how to ski. My mom tells me a funny story about when I was little skiing with her and for some reason she was tired to she sat to take a break. I yelled to everyone on the lift as they went by that my mommy was tired and needed to take a break. :ski2:

Skied this weekend with a group...some hadn't skied in 10 yrs, so they rented and got a slower morning start. When they got back to the condo with the gear and tickets one said to the other they told me to just put the ticket on my pants...sooo the two of the peeled off the back and stuck em to their pants (they actually tried to make the back of the ticket stick to the inside of their pockets)! :ROTF: When the rest of us caught up with them at lunch we laughed so hard we nearly cried!! Guess some people take things pretty literally.

Oh yeah...don't remember the exact date of first ski, but this is my anniversary month I believe...January 1969...I was 5!

With my current boyfriend, one of the first things we did was take a super early season day at Copper. I was nervous because my mutual friend who introduced us was like "he's an amazing skier." It drew me in because I look for that in a man...but I also wanted to show him I was no slouch either.

After a few runs he said "well, you're the best chick skier I've ever skied with." And I just breathed a sigh of relief. That was November 17th, which isn't all that long but we've been inseperable since. He's my default ski buddy and me his. It's awesome.

awww.

OK wait I'm an a$$hole apparently & didn't read.

LOL

I thought you meant date....like with a dude. doh!!! well that's my cute story above...for what its worth.

I thought the same too.

If you can believe it my first ski date was my first day skiing. I was 15, he was 19. He was a terrible teacher. Let's just say the romance didn't last long. I dumped him soon after...

As if! I actually think the date stuff is adorable and super-fun to read! And how incredibly nice that you have hooked up with a great skier  ! DH had to be a bit patient w/me - took about 3 seasons for me to get the groove on.

I mentioned that my thread title could be interpreted either way, didn't quite think of how to word it.

Ah...memories! I got Head 360's for my 15th birthday and went with a date to Brodie Mountain to try them out. Only time I ever skied Brodie; missed out on skiing the green snow on St. Patrick's Day.

I learned to ski when I was 3 so I don't actually remember my first day skiing. I do have early memories of being cold, falling off the rope tow, and falling off the poma lift.

and now dontcha be forgettin' the green beer at Kelly's Irish Alps! and the great fireplaces and couches.

Well I remember my first day of skiing... but that's cause it was only 3 years ago. I learned to ski December 27, 2004 at Cranmore I was petrified that I was gonna be cold, but I wasn't. I had booked my 3 days of lessons well in advance and was all ready. The worst part I remembered was learning to get myself (with skis on my feet) across flat or uphill terrain. I was miserable at it at first. Also remember being proud of myself for navigating well around my classmates on the bunny hill when they would fall in front of me. I don't think I fell but once in my 3 days of lessons. :ski2:
