Anyone going to Japan in January 2027?

is anyone else going to Japan in 2027 in search of snow? If so, would love to know where you’re going and where you’re staying!

@Michi B - I'm planning a trip for early February...don't know where I'm going or where I'm staying yet. But I have plane tickets to/from Tokyo! TBD if we hop a flight domestically from there or decide to stick around Honshu for two weeks. Where are you planning on going?

Same - we booked the flights to Tokyo for January but haven’t made it beyond that. I think we’re going to try for Niseko, although I hear it is touristy. We’re looking at staying at Zobarin.

If this is your first trip to Japan, Niseko and the surrounding area is easy to find information on, and easy to find English speaking options, which is the allure to many people. But that also means...yes, it gets more touristy than other areas. If you end up in Niseko but want something a bit more "local" feeling, I stayed at Annupuri in 2020 and loved it. Definitely more lowkey than other areas....but also one of the smaller Niseko areas.

Not sure how long you'll be staying, or if you'll have a car, but I think it's worth day-tripping to other mountains in the area...or moving to a different "homebase" halfway thru your trip.

If you end up wanting something more off-the-beaten path there are tons of options (both on Hokkaido and Honshu).
