Anyone ever play with a Wii?

Omigod is that fun! My daughter's fiance has one, and we've had the best time playing with it. I've NEVER played video games because I couldn't stand the idea of sitting on a couch pushing a joystick -- and so many of the games are just plain violent -- but this is great! Tennis, bowling, golf -- and I understand a skiing game is coming, plus something called a Wii balance board that looks pretty cool.

I may just have to get one of these.

I have to admit, I was sore after playing Wii games once. I don't think I was supposed to be jumping for the overhead tennis balls....! I was also playing doubles tennis with all four of us in a cramped space, so I think a couple of bruises were inflicted!

A friend of mine bought one this summer and we've had loads of fun playing with it. It's something to play around with as a group. I'm thinking about buying one myself. But I already have PS2, PS3, and maybe having a wii as well, will be one too many. But, I'm a techno geek, so we'll just have to wait and see.

This Xmas my brother introduced me to a whole new level of obsessive video games.

Rock Band.

Holy crap, it's fun. My whole family got into it and I think we played for almost four hours on Xmas eve. You seriously feel like a rock star. The drum set is completely retardedly fun. We are not allowed to own it in our home because nothing would ever get done.

LOL, this is funny. Because as we speak The Boy and I are sitting on the bed at our hotel after a day skiing at Jay and playing Guitar Hero.

To be fair, though, we did just get the guitars for Xmas, so we HAVE to put them to use!!!

My sister's family just got the Wii and Guitar Hero for christmas. Both are a lot of fun! but watch out, you may get involved in the game, especially tennis, and wack your opponent! LOL

We got the kids one for Christmas and we are having a blast! I did accidentally whack my son playing tennis. Our family is pretty competitive. Guitar Hero is one of my faves too!

This is precisely why I'm afraid to get one of these things. My husband is, shall we say, easily addicted to this sort of stuff.

We chose not to go with the Wii this year and instead added Dance Dance Revolution, Taiko Drum Master and Guitar Hero III. Although these games are a blast (and I have serious doubts on advancing past beginner)I have to admit some remorse in not getting the wii. Played this at a friends and I'm addicted!

I am about to go out and purchase a PS3. I recently purchased a new large tv and would like to enjoy the new Blue Ray format for playing DVD's. The price of the stand alone blue ray players is still quite expensive and the ps3 offers gaming and a Blue Ray capabilities. So me and the kids are spending some gift money on this unit.
I am not a gamer, but I am sure that we will find a game that I can get hooked on.

Hehe... indeed these games are addictive. However as encouragement to all who think they can't get past beginner in GH3 I did it. It did take some real effort to win the final battle vs Lou. I must have tried at least 5 times before I suceeded, but in the end I did suceed and I've been trying Medium when I get the chance. What kills me is having to hit the blue key with my pinky, but I'm getting better. I still can't get better than a 3star at medium, but I'm not giving up!

We've got Rock Star for the X360 which is cool. I've assumed the drums which my husband was gung ho for. He's back to playing the guitar which is fine with me. No fingers are too short issues when playing the drums! However it's MUCH harder to advance on Rock Star than GH3 from what I've seen.

All you GH and Rock Star fans-- anyone have experience with real instruments? How does it compare?

Also, there is a funny South Park episode where the kids are really into playing Guitar Hero, and then Stan's dad walks out with his real guitar plugged into an amp and says "But I can play that song for real!" (proceeds to play) and Stan says "That is SO lame, dad."!

I've played the piano most of my life and I think the only advantage a musician has in these games is rhythm. I picked up the drums really fast on Rock Band because of that. Other than that, it's really just another video game that requires hand-eye coordination and practice.

Several friends that actually play the guitar swear that makes it harder to play GH. No doubt.

My brother in law is a bass player. When he tried our GH for the first time Christmas morning he totally rocked it. I have never seen anyone do that well their first time. Of course he also plays a lot of video games, so who knows which was more helpful? I did notice that he plucked the GH guitar with his fingers like playing a bass rather than pushing down with a thumb like everyone else in our family seems to do.

I don't think Wii's were ever ridiculously overpriced unless you bought a scalped one... The MSRP is only $250 (compared to xbox360 at like $350-400 or PS3 at $400-500). They are still tough to come by - Nintendo can't seem to make them quickly enough - but it is getting a bit easier to find one.
